Worth swapping to a Grand Marquis axle to get limited slip?

I have access to a Grand Marquis 8.8 axle. It's a coil spring setup so I'd need to weld on new spring perches. I'm waiting to hear back on the axle ratio. It's a limited slip so that would save me having to set up the gears to get LS.

I don't mind the welding I'm just wondering if anyone is familiar with the Grand Marquis axle and why we don't see more of these swaps. Any tips?

Not sure of the specs but I'd be willing to bet the Grand Marquis axle is too wide. With all the fabrication it would take to make it fit, you'd be better off just robbing the l/s carrier out of it and stuffing it in your Ranger axle.

I'll guess you don't see more because its a wider axle. And the gearing will probably be good for highway driving, not trails; higher number like 3.08

?The Explorer axle is ver close to the right width, has no coil spring suspension mounts that need to be removed and has the additional benefit of 31-spline axle shafts

The grand Marquis axle if new enough will have nearly the same brakes as an explorer, th28-spline axle shafts and all the aggrevation of eliminating the stuff you don't need.

If you want to do the welding an explorer axle is a far easier way to get there.

The Grand Marquis axle, even if free, is no bargain.
