yea I like warn to but there really pricey

Sometimes you gotta spend alittle extra to get a lot better. :icon_cheers:

Exactly,

You get what you pay for.

I have been stuck on the trail with a burned out 'cheap' winch before.....

You can get the 6K winch and it will work. It won't work well. It will be barely adequate under light use and useless under heavy loads. You can save your allowance a few more months and buy a winch that will do the job properly or waste money on this one only to get the other one anyway somewhere down the road. Nowhere do I see line length mentioned. Bet it is less than 100'. Not enough. Line speed is 2.9'/minute at 6000lbs load. You are going to grow old and die waiting on that winch to pull you out of anything. To actually get 6000lbs of pull, the cable has to be all the way out. With even half of a spool, your pulling capacity drops to a little over 4000lbs. I'd pass.

Do not get that 6000lb one.

Warns are nice, and they have a name, and that is good. My Champion winch is yet to fail me. (Do they have Costco in NFLD?, thats where I got mine for $350, 9500lbs pull)

I carry 2 snatch blocks and 150' extra cable. I have never had to use the snatch blocks yet. (with the exception of that trailer clusterkcuf) If you get a cheaper winch that is way stronger than your little 2000lbs truck will need you wont work it as hard and it will live long enough and do you well.

(PS: don't get the 6000lbs one, i know, i already said that)

Well, you have 2 snatchblocks and never used them. Why not a 6,000# and use a snatchblock?

I've saved myself with a 2,000# pull come-along and a lot of ingenuity. I would have killed and buried the bodies to have had a 6,000# winch and a snatchblock.

Why not a 3000# and 5 snatch blocks? lol.
Because:
-time spend winching, every snatch block acts as a multiply on your winching time (and force)
-one day I'm going to need every piece of my rigging just to get myself out
-time, spent rigging the snatch blocks, and all the other rigging, VS just running one cable.
-load on the winch
-etc

lol, just teasing Will,
I run what I run because that is the level I feel i need, and use. I think he should run a stronger, cheaper winch, and carry one snatch block, just incase. If the winch is 'over' strong, it is likely to last.

Most of the time, you need only a little help. That's about 90% of the time. In many cases, you need the help to go backwards. Like the time I drove down an ATV trail and got wedged between two trees in deep sand. Or when I drove off the edge of a cliff and was saved by the radius arms hanging me up on the edge. But usually, it's just a little help. 6,000# is a lot of help. In fact, your winch will only pull maximum rating at the last layer. If you take a 6,000# winch and cut off all but 50' you will have almost the power of an 8,000. The rest you put a loop on each end and keep it for a spare.

I have a 2,000# ATV winch I use all the time and it's pretty strong. A 6,000# is enough for almost anything, and the snatchblock will overcome the 10%.

thanks guys, and yea Dishtowel we got a Costco, I didnt know they had that big of winches there? do they have a website?

And what the hell is a snatchblock! thanks

A snatch block can be had for as little as $20 to about $60. When used properly they can double your winching capacity and cut your line speed in half. A VERY useful tool. Minimum winching equipment infludes a tree saver or two, a couple of shackles and a pair of gloves. I carry several tree savers, two snatch blocks and an extra 150' of rope. We get stuck a lot up here! I would never consider a slow winch simply becasue of the amount of winching I have to do. I do not want to spend all afternoon winching through a bog or up a hill when a faster winch will get me done in 1/4 the time. I get to see more trail that way. Yes, you can use a weaker winch with a slow line speed but why would you want to?

A winch is a great tool but is probably the most dangerous piece of equipment you will ever install on your truck. The forces generated can be extreme. If not used properly, you could loose some skin from a cable burr, loose some fingers or in the most extreme, loose your life. Educate yourself on their use!
