Actually Im pretty sure most 3.0's have the legit 35, its the 2.3 with the fake one, mine has a true d35

not necessarily. theres a few good threads on explorerforum about it. its pretty much 50/50. alot of the 3.0s had hybrids, like mine. but i dont care for the diff gears. its the shafts that usualy break first and what i always break lol

personally, up to 35's id rock the d35 and not worry about it, i normally go a little bigger

Well really im looking to do alot of trail riding. I live in Western Washington and we have alot of good places togo wheeling at and all types of terrain. My wife really thinks i got a heavy foot i guess ill have to lighten it up a bit. Just worried about breaking somthing right away i plan on putting some money in my front axle at least by summer, Dont know if anyone is familar with Naches, Manastash or Evenscreek but thats where ill be do most of my wheeling at.

4in suspension
3in body
on 35in BFG KM2s

the parts truck i just bought has d35 3.73s and and 35s in the woods its fine but on the road its deff not a race car but its drivable. ive wheeled the piss out of it for the past 3 weeks trying to blow up the 2.9 and a4ld and have yet to brake any thing.

I've seen pics posted of Evans Creek area, though I've never been there myself.
What I've seen looks pretty tame compared to Rubicon, Dusy/Ershim and many of the other trails in California's Sierra Nevada Mtns that I typically run.

Like I said though, it's all gonna be in your driving style. If you typically look for the best line to get traction up an obstacle, the D35 should hold up fine. If you like planting it to the floor and blasting your way over everything you come to, then a 1-ton swap (D60/10.25") would probably serve you a lot better.

I balls to walls it with 4.56 gears and 35s.

The biggest thing to watch out is your bearings. They're so freaking close together that side to side loads wear them out fast. Use only timken, and pack them hard with grease and check them after each trip.

I bet you could easily put 38s on as long as they aren't wide and you don't beat it hard.

Many (who knows, 50%? It's not uncommon) 3.0 trucks 93+ and all 2.3 4x4s 93+ had the hybrid.

well how can i check to make sure i not a legit one?

I think its if you take off your oil fill plug and see a bearing cap for the carrier, its a D28/D35 hybrid. If you see the carrier, its a legit D35 IIRC.

you can also tell by looking at the pumpkin, if it's smooth it's a hybrid, if it has fins it's a D35

well mine has fins on it, but i thought the hybrid was a D35 outside with D28 inside. So if i have fins and it not smooth does that mean i got true D35.

thanks
