Will a Tornado help?

I would like to hear from owners of Tornado devices. Good or bad results. I'm considering purchase. My Ranger is used primarily around town 30-40mph. I wonder if the Tornado will be of any help at those low speeds. It's got the 2.3L, with auto trans. Thanks

i think he means that 30-40 miles per hour is the avg speed he is traveling. Not his MPG.

there are some guys that come into our shop complaining of slightly worse gas mileage using a tornado...

Everone is going to cuss me out but oh well.

i have one. however, IT WAS FREE!

it might save me $2 a year or something. it was in the truck when i got it. one day i took it out just to see what the deal was and i could tell a very small difference in throttle response. i would never buy one.

i agree with predator on this one.

Tune-up is the best thing to do on helping you lighten your wallet.

I did at one point in time have a K&N intake. Increased throttle response and better top-end, but thats all. I put the stock intake back in because I like the ease of paper filter.

Tornado Air

I bought one for my 89 with a 2.9 because Bobby Likis used to endorse them. Noted nothing in the way of horsepower or mileage increase. I took it back to Auto Zone where the manager, in effect called me a liar. Said "..they've sold lots of them and no one had brought one back yet." He threw the money on the counter and walked off. Now that's customer service. Haven't been to an Auto Zone since and tell everyone I know this story. Save your dough.

Why don't you make your own because all they are is like some sheet metal that has been put together like a blower motor fan. But yeah up here they are like 80$ i don't know what they are down there but i am not paying that much for just some little peice of metal junk. If you want better mileage just inflate your tires like 5 psi over normal for you truck . The ride will be a bit rough but for my truck its already 23 years old, the ride is not getting any better. Also the tune up thing.

Ripoff !!!

I read a article in Consumer Reports about these "SNAKE OIL" mileage makers, CR tested five or six of these wallet lightners, NONE of them increased fuel mileage and one or two of them even COST you mileage.
The Tornado infomercial puts on a good show, almost had ME convinced the first time I saw it and I turned wrenches on BMW's for 33 years ...:idiot:

Exactly 2 owners of Tornado's have responded. Everyone else was voicing an unsolicited opinion. For shame!

My unsolicited opinion is...

Don't buy a piece of shit Tornado!

Look--back in the Pea-Brained Past when carbs were rampant and the Big Three didn'e give a damn if you could make it to the end of the block with a full tank, maybe there was some room for improvement. And maybe when the government started slapping fuel economy requirements on them they tightened up, But know this--

They swirled air like a tornado, but NEVER did they do it before the throttle plate.

Why is that?

Well, let's examine it.

You have to measure the air the engine is ingesting because you need to run the motor near stoichemetric to keep it from running lean and burning itself into molten metal. The carb measures its own air by physics laid down by Adam Venturi--place kicker for the Colts and Patriots. All those Superbowl rings, he's above reproach. Carbs use the air they measure to directly dispense the fuel. You tornado in front of a carb, you greatly lessen the air going into it because you won't spin a neat spiral through the mess that is a carb.

Should you tornado an EFI? Only if you are stupid. Why would you purposely ingest LESS than the most air you could? There's no sense.

The Tornado claims spiraling the air is good. That's true. It improves the mixture of fuel and air. But they are tricking you. You need to spiral the air AFTER it is mixed with the fuel. The only place you can do that is in the combustion chamber. They don't sell a Tornado that installs inside the chamber. The factory does that.

They are swindling people.

Pos

Hay! I wouldn't buy one O them POS Tornado'e but I would buy one O them two leeter pop bottle thingees that make the whirl pool, thems cool, how they work :icon_confused:

And don't forget the magnets to polarize the carbon atoms in the fuel :woot:
I have a neighbor who has one of those things on his Bronco. He is a retired cpa for Shell oil. He's 80 something. I don't have the heart to ask him about it. shady

I bought one about five years ago for my 1995 Ranger 2.3 and used it for about a year and a half and it didn't help to increase gas mileage and I wish I could have the money back that I spent on it.

I read a article in Consumer Reports about these "SNAKE OIL" mileage makers, CR tested five or six of these wallet lightners, NONE of them increased fuel mileage and one or two of them even COST you mileage.

EPA tested more than 50 of these for mileage and emissions.

A few of the "behavior modifiers" (like putting objects under the throttle) worked a tiny bit. Nothing was substantial, and a few worked in the wrong direction.

You guys scared him off, Didn't even welcome him to the forum... for shame. Well the more tornados you get the better it is, i have 17 in a row and man i am up over 100mpg
