Will a cam synchro being out of adjustment throw a CEL code 214?

Crossed threads are tight threads.
Before I swap the cam synchronizer and sensor for the 2nd time, I am wondering if it could just be out of adjustment, like a distributor.

It was lined up in the window when I installed it, but perhaps managed to spin itself out of parameters? would this trip my CEL?

I had about 500 miles on it before the code 214 came back. Was running perfect and still is. I dont see how the unit could have suddenly failed again.

If adjusting it might fix it, I may try to do it without removing the intake. Otherwise I guess bite the bullet and swap in this NOS motorcraft cam synchro unit I found.

Yes, Cylinder ID is a function of the Cam sensor, but doesn't mean its out of time with Crank Sensor(main timing sensor)
Most likely a wiring issue
1993 Ranger should be using a Hall effect type Cam Sensor, 3 wire
Test for 12v and ground with key on, on the red and black wire at sensor

Yep, its a 3 wire.
But could it also mean it IS out of time?
Im gonna try and get a meter on it without pulling the intake.
 
Its "possible" but computer has some leeway to self time the cam sensor pulse

The crank sensor is taken as "gospel" by the computer, thats the engine timing, period
It then syncs the cam sensor pulse to crank TDC if its within say 5deg, it will then cut injectors for #1 and #5 to determine firing order for cylinder ID
Crank slows slightly when cylinder doesn't get full load of fuel
This all takes about 1-2 seconds, if that

If you were off by a few degrees it could set that code, although I thought there was another code for that, but don't see it on my 3-digit code list

If you already had a rough idle from other reasons it would also prevent crank/cam sync so cyl ID code would be set
 
I had a high idle issue that was solved, but never a rough idle.
