I have a 99 4.0 ranger with a bad engine, I pulled the engine out of a 96 and cannot get the cam synchro from the 99 to seat right on the 96 engine it sits about an 1/8 of an inch too high and help would be appreciated

Can you post a picture of the 2 side by side? Maybe that will jog someone's memory?

The 99 is on the left the 96 is on the right, I put grease on it to see where it was touching it doesn’t look like it’s hitting anything obvious

That shaft coming out the cam synchronizer (just like on a distributor) drives the oil pump. If it's not lined up with the oil pump drive... the synchronizer won't go down all the way.

Once you get it to the point it won't go any further... bar the engine over a little while pushing down on the synchronizer. It should just fall in place.

I have the oil pump removed completely because I couldn’t get it to seat I’ve tried pushing down on it once the gears mesh and it feels like it’s hitting a hard stop

Ill try removing the lower intake this weekend since I need to swap that anyway and maybe I can get a better angle on it

Oh man...

Did you notice the difference in length of the shafts? The 99 synchronizer just my not fit in the 96 block.

That’s what my first thought was but the blocks look identical there’s no stop or lip in the tube for the oil pump shaft so I don’t think it could be hitting there
