Will 3.0L Vulcan intake tube fit 4.0L Cologne (OHV)?

So, apparently the intake tube from MAF to TB for a '94 4.0 OHV is akin to the Hope Diamond.

Mine is original, cracks at the bendy parts, of which I've siliconed at the seams, then ran silicone tape (self-adhering) around the hose at those beads. Honestly, it's a pretty good patch job, but with the patches and the BBK TB I had to get when my OEM needed replacing, there's some mismatching and aft-MAF air still.

Now, of all the crap we have to buy to keep our trucks rolling, a fresh intake duct seems like it would be cake. In fact, if I drove a rather tepid 3L V6, it would be cake. But no go. I did find one for sale for <clears throat> a self-assured $3,000.

But, as I say, you can find 3.0 hoses all over the place, brand new, used, whatever. Honestly, the design seems similar aside from a two-duct middle section that seems silly but not particularly restrictive. And there's a vacuum outlet for my existing hose to match up with my oil inlet.

So can I just use the smaller mill's intake tube? Anyone tried this? If so, any fab needed? And if not, anyone know where I can find a decent piece of rubber for my truck?
Seems like a dumb reason not to idle smoothly...

If my truck was here inwould go measure the 3.0 tube so you knew the measurements. My truck is out of state though

Yes, the 4.0l air tube is hard to find

Not expensive to ship, if one comes up

used 4.0l OHV engines were bought up pretty fast when they came in which is why the air tubes are hard to find, left to rot or taken with the engine


People do make air tubes using fibreglass cast material, i.e. broken arm cast material
Or to repair current air tube
And the material comes in pretty colors now, lol

Or get aluminum tubing and reinforced silicone elbows and couplings from eBay or Amazon and design your own.

I'm pretty sure my intake tube came from a 95+ Explorer. It's solid plastic. None of that rubber-plastic-rubber BS. So that fits. IDK how much later though.

I tried chasing mine down once and this is what I came up with, only available from Ford, at $210 plus (this was maybe 10 years back) I resorted to foam tape wrapped tight under double hose clamps for the seals, they were not sold seperately

am i understanding you correctly?
you put silicone post air filter on an intake tube?


i would use a later unit and airbox.....with your meter. just keep an eye on the fuel trims.
