Why the "STRONG" Toyota following???

I had 2 Toyota 4runner's. One was the original from Japan in 84 and the other was 87. Both were great held up well. The 87 liked to have the head gasket changed every 30 thousand miles and then decided to burn up cpu's till I had it scrapped.

But I'll tell you what I found before I bought my Ranger in 02. The 2 year old Toyotas with 30 grand on the odometer were 21 to 22 grand. My Ranger was more but was brand new and with zero down zero interest I couldn't go wrong.

Blah blah blah.

No, Not really! WoW! You had a Toyota for 10 yrs. OK? Lets trade stories. My buddy "still has" his 91 ranger 4x4 ext. cab with 4.0 with well over 200k and he has had a intake gasket set and valve cover gaskets replaced and the 5 speed replaced cuz he pulled his bass boat "FOR YEARS" with it in 5th. Nothing else but maintenance to this truck. Plus, when we were younger we use to take this truck out and just throw it in any mud hole we could find. He bought the truck brand new and has rodded the piss out of this thing since day one. Still going strong. My cousin had a 2000 Ranger 4x4 and pulled 200k plus out of it without a hickup.

Some of the replies have been about the Toy having more room or 4drs or more power. Thats never been Toyotas "reason" for thier followers. Its always been about the reliability. I guess I just don't see where they get all the rave about their longevity concerning the last 10-20yrs. Lets face it. The 4.0 Ford and 4.3 Chevy are very good high mileage engines and will run for yrs with minimal problems.

Heck, a buddy of mine was a mechanic at a Toyota dealeship for quite a few yrs. So, I asked him what he thought about them. His reply, they are all man made and all break down and they all have their problems just like any other make. So, my point is, I just don't see where they are so much better. I agree, all makes have their followers but Toyotas is almost "Cult" like. Heck , I think the new Tacomas are bad ass looking and would take one in a heartbeat but I ain't gonna tell everybody they are the best vehicle ever made and "worth" whatever you pay. Just like I ain't gonna tell you the Ranger is the best. Like I said in my first post, I think they all make good trucks nowadays but don't tell me they are worth sooo much more than a Ranger or S-10 or Nissan cuz its a "TOYOTA!

Well, lets see your buddy drive that Ranger like I did my Toyota back and forth from California to Florida like I used to several times a year and go wheeling everywhere I could along the way!! My Toyota did Moab 12 times in 4 years. Lets see your buddies Ranger do that. None of my buddies with their really nice Lifter Ranger will drive them as far as I drive and have driven all my early Broncos and Toyotas like I used to. They all say that is just too much from thier trucks. Haaaaaa. I still love my Ranger and I still love the eraly Ford cars and trucks...but I know a better made truck when you own one and wheel them as much as I have over the years!!! I would buy another older Toyota tomorrow if I had room. We have too much stuff and I keep my stuff in the garages we have!!!!!

And where are the Toyota Tacomas and Toyota Tundras built?:thefinger:

Several are assembled right here in America,Bro. Put together by American workers. Look at Ford/Mazda. That is what my brother-in-law does for a living with Ford the past 30 years. My Nissan Rogue was assembled here in America by American workers. The build sheet says so as well. A lot of Americans would be out of work if not for this...so you need to look at that as well when you say things about the Jap brand of vehicals the Americans are buying and building.

That is true. Personally, I prefer American companies over the "import" companies.

Obviously you missed my point. Dingus and Dangus up there said they only buy American trucks, hence my comment of "where are Toyota's made" knowing that most are built in America. I was pointing out and making fun of their ignorance.

Rather the ignorance that it is still a foreign owned company.

I am concerned about the future of our country. The day is near that we are dependent completely upon foreign products.
You guys keep up the good work.

Jackasses.

so ****ing what? people have the jobs that make the trucks, global community and all that.
It's 2011 not 1865

but hey, i'd buy a car from any brand american or otherwise as long as the UAW had no part in the building of it.

The only way you can buy only american made products is to be amish, otherwise you've already bought a foreign made product.....

and I'm sure you think NAFTA was a good thing.
If we supported more American made products there would be more Americans working. But due to some brilliance in the '90's most of our goods now come from the Asian market. I've seen what happened in the late '90's and into the last decade, foreign vehicles made on our soil is not a good thing!

not true, Amish buy kerosene and diesel fuel which is FOREIGN CRUDE in most cases

bahahaha, lol, now the "STRONG FOLLOWING" of MY RANGER IS BETTER THEN ANYTHING ELSE shows its ugly head lol, yes it TRS, but this is general discussion, not discussion about rangers only, and the 80's toyota's are worth more because they came with a solid axle in them factory, even the IFS that toyota uses is just as reliable as TTB, this is bein said by someone who has owned ALOT and wheeled ALOT of both trucks, ive had multiple solid axle toyota's a couple IFS toyotas and alot of TTB RBV's and noone has argued the fact that a 20yr old toyota is worth more then a 20yr old ranger, they jsut had to say KBB is JUNK lol. thats why i listed NADA, and GUESS WHAT PEOPLE, there usually within a 5% margin of each other lol.....guess you shoulda checked for yourself before whining like a little wussy lol.

it could be that i just woke up and am a bit on the cranky/still sleepy side, but i see a whole lot of people that i havent seen anything from talking shit about a topic that they have very little personal experience with, instead its "my friend this" or "my friend that" lol i love my ranger's but just like my women sometimes i like to dip into some asian LOL:icon_hornsup:

I just think it's funny that I have to keep buying other vehicles so I can fix my Ranger. Yet I always end up selling those vehicles which run PERFECT so I can drive my Ranger until something on it breaks.

But tell you what, it has NEVER kept me from getting home. Sure I almost died in it a few times, but I always made it back.

Either way, I'm a Ford guy. That's just how it is. I'll drive other stuff, but I wont feel the same about them.

Sorry, Bro!! it was not meant as a retort towards you...just to everybody who brought up the Jab brand being brought into America and not knowing they were being built here. You are right about that. I have know about this for so many years and I am still happy this gives Americans workers steady jobs!!!
