Why the "STRONG" Toyota following???

im not sure. if you wanna talk low power motors that last FOREVER, the 22r doesnt have shit on the old 300 i6. but it sure as hell didnt get much recognition. not to mention theres 100x more 300's out there than 22r's...

Good Call! Also, how about the 240 I6? My old man had a 69 F100 with a 240 and he got 240k out of that thing and the motor was never tore into! When it finally gave up he pulled a 300 I6 out of a state truck that had 75k and ran it in the 69 for another 120k and finally sold the truck after owning it for 25yrs. Truck had over 360k on it when he sold it. Plus, you can actually pull something and "USE" a I6 instead of just drive it like a 22R.

I guess I just don't understand the "Brainwash" stronghold that Ford has on its followers. It just seems that most of the Ford followers think that their products are superior and the following is SO STRONG! For instance, my uncle has been a Ford man for years and is so crazy about them that he tells everyone else that their stuff is junk while the Ford is far superior. My brother bought a Ford 3-4 yrs ago and has replaced everything but the steering wheel and but yet tells me how much better the Ford is vs the Tacoma.

they each have there own place, i couldnt ever see myself owning a nissan truck for the simple fact that every single one ive ever seen is complete garbage lol, my friend has a 97 you could swear is a 87 because they never changed there body style

all of the big 3 in line six engines were great engine in there day & even the toyota six has parts that interchange with the chevy 6.

You could actually bog down a inline 6 more then you could a v-8 before it would stall

I've owned S10,B4000,Ranger,Toyota,Nissan hrdbdy, and 2 Dodges.and for reliability Nissan never missed from june 90 to june 2000 ,bought new in Tacoma 1990 took to school in Baton Rouge in 1994 took it to Fla and traded it there for a new Dakota with 4.7 stick and 3.92 posi.but when i started this 4x4 stuff I researched small 4x4 trucks and on paper and real world for BANG FOR YOUR BUCK the RVB is tough to beat and easy to work on-TTB 4 LIFE!

Brainwashing isn't limited to Toyota owners. If you keep fixing any truck, then it will last 30 years.
I am just thankful I am not piss poor and have to drive a 20 year old Toyota.

i didnt know piss poor people drive 20 yr old toyota's, in reality, a 20 yr old toyota in good shape is worth more then a 20yr old ranger, and thats not someone who doesnt know talkin out there ass, look up the KBB or NADA if you like and see for yourself

Toyota built their reputation on the 22r/22re engine. I have a 93 with 240k original motor and a trans and it still pulls fine with no problems. My 91 ranger that I have had for 12 years (4.0/a4ld) has 150k and has it's lifter noise, has had many parts replaced that are still original on my yota with far more miles. I'm not saying that the toyotas are necessarily worth the extra money, but I've found my yota to be much more reliable. Believe me, I never thought I would say that, if you asked me 10 years ago I would have told you the ranger was where it was at. If it weren't for the beamed front end on the ranger i'd have built a yota. You gotta spend 2k on a chaos kit for a yota, but the ranger you can cut and weld and pull 13 inches no problem.

That said, I think toyota has gotten comfortable with their reputation and has gotten very lazy with the quality on the new trucks. The 05 plus are in my opinion no better than the rangers, and I would probably choose a ranger over the toyota and put some bolt ons on it with the extra money. The 95-04 tacomas seem to retain a lot of their value, the 3.4 has good power/reliablity, and the 4cyls aren't bad at all (more like a refined 22re). 95-04 are still made in the states. Long post, but toyotas definetly arent what they used the be.

is this a toyota forum or a ford? can't tell anymore..
I buy American trucks only.

When new including rebates and dealer negotiations Rangers have always been $1500-$4000 cheaper than a similarly equipped Toyota. That initial pricing has a bunch to do with the unbalanced resale value and besides KBB is a joke as far as their appraisal values go....way too high.
Up until about 1998 Toyota trucks rust much faster than any American vehicle at the time. Up until that time Toyotas were made of tin.
