Why the "STRONG" Toyota following???

You do not understand anything do you??

I have buddies who still have their Toyota trucks that have have had since the early '80's. I had a 22R 4x4 from the 80's that I drove to California and back to Ocala three times a year and went wheeling along the way as well. It never let me down. I kept that truck for 10 years!! I had it along with my 83 Ranger 4x4 and my 76 Bronco. I only sold my Toyota to a friend when I wanted to buy a section of his property near Ocala that I still own. That was a great little Toyota!!! My buddies who still have their early Toyota trucks tell me they never let them down and they keep running forever. Some of my buddies who bought new Ford Rangers or an F-150 4x4 kept them for a few years but went to the Toyota brand and never looked back at Ford again. Go figure!!! I have friends who got rid of their Ranger as soon as the Tacoma 4 door came out. They can put the family and the pets in the truck and go camping for the weekend and enjoy that wheeling together feeling. Last year a buddy of mine bought a brand new 2010 Tacoma 4x4 4 door and paid $18,000 out the door for it. That is a great price.
The Ranger 2010 4x4 was about the same price and after he drove the Tacoma and the Ranger he picked the Tacoma...more power, more room
and the price was about the same!!!

Does that answer your question?
the tundra's are POS, but i certainly wouldnt mind owning a new tacoma 4 door, there nice trucks, lots of power, push button electic locker in the rear, who wouldnt love the truck, and with a 5spd behind it it will pull on ANY stock ranger like its nobodys business

This is all about brand preference and opinions. People who are Ford (or any other brand) guys always think that thier product is the best and so on. It goes that way for pretty much every group of owners. As for my B2, I inheritied it, built it and wheel the heck out of it. Does it have its issues? Yes and plenty of them but what vehicle doesnt? When it came to buying a truck for towing our stuff, camping etc. the choice was easy in 2007. The 1/2 ton with the most power and biggest tow rating...Toyota Tundra. (Which F150 in 2007 had 4wd, 4 doors, 381hp and 401 ftlbs of torque?) I love my old 54 Ford and my B2, but when it came to buying new...there was no competion at the time. Talk all the trash you want, at the end of the day, I have a powerful and reliable 4 door truck that makes a great tow rig for my B2 and all of my camping gear and hobbies.

Chevy vs Ford
Toyota vs Ford
2 stroke vs 4 stroke
the list goes on and on...

I'm actually planning to buy a Tacoma crew. Can't put kids in the Ranger too easily, and I'm lookin to make some.

I mean really, I'm already driving an S10. It can't get any worse than this.

WOW, now thats pretty bad. Its just around here I see more older Nissans than Older Toyotas, and Nissans appear to be in better shape.

man those japanese trucks rust! :lame:

All I know is whenever there is a terrorist in a movie they're always driving a toyota truck..

Bro, I see more Fords and Chevy trucks than Jap trucks with rust on them. Every day I drive or go somewhere I see more and rusted Ford trucks than any. I don't see many Jap trucks with rust on them. My buddies with Fords say they have had more rust problems than any other brad they have ever bought.

I have a couple friends that were really into Toyotas a couple years back and they've since moved on. I think they had 3 blown heads with 4 trucks in 2-3 years, all 22r motors.

Yeah sure they last, but anything thing does if you take decent care of it.

Just happed to a friends dad with a 89 yota pickup. the cam rocked and cracked the caps that hold it down. picked everything up to rebuild besides the machine work for 800. I just finished putting it back together and getting ready to put it back it. Just alot of vacuum lines coming off of that old carb.(first time with a carb.)

Most of the rusted Jap trucks just end up in the crusher. The ones that haven't broke in half are the ones still driving. The crushed ones are probably the Tundra frames. :thefinger:

Toyota was a good brand. Not as reliable as they were though.

Around me old Toyota trucks are a lot more rusted out than old Ford, Chevy or Dodge trucks. There is a white one that runs around that almost has not bed because it has rusted so bad. Most of the small Nissan trucks are not as rusted as the Toyota trucks either. Its hard to see how people still buy the trucks when they had to recall over 1 million trucks for the frames rusting in half, the leaf springs falling off or the spare tire falling off.

I do not know anybody who owns a Jap truck with rust on it. I see so many nice older Jap trucks running around that it would make anybody proud to own them. But, I do know a lot of people with Fords and Chevy's that are rusted. Who knows why!! Some places we live in a more likley to cause rust then other areas. Maybe it's luck of the draw!!!!

Toyota has a huge following here in Hawaii. cant blame em.

If I was offered a new decked out Tacoma or a new fully decked out Ranger. Im going Toyota. Really, I bought the Ranger because I couldnt afford a Tacoma back in 04 lol. However, the Ranger has served me well and Ill drive it till the auto tranny starts to slip and get what I can for it.

I blame the old 22r motors.

im not sure. if you wanna talk low power motors that last FOREVER, the 22r doesnt have shit on the old 300 i6. but it sure as hell didnt get much recognition. not to mention theres 100x more 300's out there than 22r's...

No, Not really! WoW! You had a Toyota for 10 yrs. OK? Lets trade stories. My buddy "still has" his 91 ranger 4x4 ext. cab with 4.0 with well over 200k and he has had a intake gasket set and valve cover gaskets replaced and the 5 speed replaced cuz he pulled his bass boat "FOR YEARS" with it in 5th. Nothing else but maintenance to this truck. Plus, when we were younger we use to take this truck out and just throw it in any mud hole we could find. He bought the truck brand new and has rodded the piss out of this thing since day one. Still going strong. My cousin had a 2000 Ranger 4x4 and pulled 200k plus out of it without a hickup.

Some of the replies have been about the Toy having more room or 4drs or more power. Thats never been Toyotas "reason" for thier followers. Its always been about the reliability. I guess I just don't see where they get all the rave about their longevity concerning the last 10-20yrs. Lets face it. The 4.0 Ford and 4.3 Chevy are very good high mileage engines and will run for yrs with minimal problems.

Heck, a buddy of mine was a mechanic at a Toyota dealeship for quite a few yrs. So, I asked him what he thought about them. His reply, they are all man made and all break down and they all have their problems just like any other make. So, my point is, I just don't see where they are so much better. I agree, all makes have their followers but Toyotas is almost "Cult" like. Heck , I think the new Tacomas are bad ass looking and would take one in a heartbeat but I ain't gonna tell everybody they are the best vehicle ever made and "worth" whatever you pay. Just like I ain't gonna tell you the Ranger is the best. Like I said in my first post, I think they all make good trucks nowadays but don't tell me they are worth sooo much more than a Ranger or S-10 or Nissan cuz its a "TOYOTA!

I always got 22r's were the best motors argument (coming from ricers/tuners). I've heard how long the 300's last. Now if I could find a 300 I6 carbed...
