Hi guys, great forum, I'm really impressed with the community and the quality of information and communication here. Normally I'd probably just try to fly under the radar but since this looks like a place I think I'd like to spend a good amount of time, I figure I should be polite and introduce myself. I thought a good way to do that would be to explain why I like Rangers.
My parents weren't car people at all, but I grew up next to an uncle who ran a very successful foundation business and he was 100% Ford until the day he died, I have no idea why, but every single one of his business and personal vehicles was either Ford or Lincoln, no exceptions. I'm not quite sure how but I got infected because while I do like lots of other cars, when it comes to trucks, and no matter how many times I get infuriated by Ford's sadistic engineering (j/k), any time I have to choose, I'm just going to choose Ford. I'm not even sure why but it's programmed in.
In high school, I had a rich kid friend whose dad bought him an insanely great used OBS Bronco immediately after he got his license. Within a week, his cousin, who was one of the main actors in the Breakfast Club (I'm not sure I should say which one, but you'd probably guess) was visiting, borrowed that Bronco and wrecked it. A few days later, my friend's dad bought him a brand new B2000, and as cool as that Bronco was, I was weirdly impressed by that Mazda. It was really slick for the 80s and was great at, ahem... getting air jumping the tracks.
Probably the durability stuck with me.
10 years later, my mechanic brother in law (who is also a Ranger guy) had a manual B3000 and he had only good things to say about it.
Needless to say, I always knew when I got the chance I'd get a Ranger, and about 5 years ago when I was moving back to North America from Europe I was bidding on some government auctions to get a deal on a car (mostly police Tauruses), a Ranger popped up and I put in a bid.
I have a few "interesting" cars but I'd have to say the Ranger is the best overall vehicle I have. It's everything I ever hoped it would be. It's comfortable. It's useful. Parts are cheap and plentiful. My XLT has way more features than my "interesting" cars. It's easy to work on (on the the sliding Ford scale
) and it's basically dead reliable. Oh and it has 239,000 miles on it!
I'm a huge fan of simple things that get the job done and I hate wasting money. As far as vehicles go, this Ranger is a total grand slam. Often I'll have a $100K F150 roll up next to me at a traffic light and I just think to myself "that's pretty sweet, but I can do 99% of what that guy can do and mine cost $99K less
Anyway, that's me, thanks for the great forum, I can already see there are a lot of really good people on here and many who have been here a long time. I'll do what I can to contribute. Cheers!
