My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Truck probably weighs 3k..hopefully a little under 3k when I'm done.. HP will be 200max.. at least for as long as the first set of tires lasts. 96 2wd single cab short bed.

Do we think going full ham for a pair of drag radials would really be worth it? Or is getting a couple of regular old high performance tires going to be good enough?

Comparing some toyo proxy r888r's for example to MT dot drag radials.. about 40$ cheaper a piece.. and the proxys have a whopping .3/32s more tread depth which would extend their useful life by... A bit anyways. They're more of a road course tire by design but.. still sticky.. hmmm..

Thoughts?

Someone like @Maritime Drag Racing would probably be better qualified to answer that question than us 4X4 junkies.

Ah yes.. why didn't I think of that 🤔

Bless me with your bearded 660' knowledge oh wise one!

Estimated torque and gearing seem like helpful information here. What engine RPM are you planning on when you launch?

As would any planned rear suspension modifications: Stock, stock + ladder bars, 4 link?

Real rough torque estimate would be right around 200.. and probably launching at peak tq. Unsure where peak tq is going to be.. still have more modifications & tuning to take care of before I put it on a Dyno. 3.73 gears, stock suspension at first.. but will probably at least get some leaf spring clamps... Stepping up to ladder bars if necessary.. rear tires will be 27-28" diameter.

Wheelbase? Single cab short bed? Extended cab long bed? Custom stretched 20ft frame?

It’s all relevent. Spit out the detaills so the guys who know can give you an educated guess.

Otherwise, your stuck with idiots like me saying “in stock configuration with only 200hp, don’t bother with the drag tires.

depends on track actuals. generally 200 hp is not an issue to launch though.

I edited the OP to include the truck config.

This is kinda what I was thinking. The track is prepped.. but.. not to the extent of big name places. Sticky.. but your not walking out of your shoes at the starting line.

Don't bother heating up stock radial tires. They work better cold.

I've heard the same about drag radials too, apparently the only tires that really benefit from a burnout are straight up bias ply slicks
