That our beloved trucks are made by Mazda? :icon_confused: Some of the experienced techs that I work with believe that they are Mazda built bodies and frames with Ford engines. 'Cause I'm pretty sure they were designed and built by Ford for Mazda. But either way I don't care because I like Mazda too.

The Ranger is an american designed and built truck.

the MAzda trucks after 1993 are simply rebadged rangers.

Yes the rangers after 1992 all used mazda built manual transmissions but the rest of the truck is pure ford.

yeah ive seen that too.
once i explain em the whole Ranger history they get it lol

Ford owns Mazda, doesn't it?

You should here how many times I have to explain it over here...Hell, the wife's uncle still doesn't understand...

I think they used to own a large percentage of it, not sure the exact amount. I think Ford has sold most or all of their Mazda stock by now.

except the duratec 2.3 is a mazda MZR engine.

And the FM and TK series of transmissions which were made my Mitsubishi and Mazda, the Cologne engines which were German, the A4LD, 4R44, 5R44, and 5R55 transmissions which are all Bordeaux's (French), and the IFS setup which is a patently Japanese idea and design as far as 4x4 vehicles go.

After all is said and done, its still designed and built by Ford. I understand that. Just don't understand why people think its a Japanese truck.

Maybe they are still thinking about the Ford Courrier that was a Mazda? You'd think in 30 years they would have learned the difference. Duh!

I don't really care; Its easier just to go with it, then try to explain it to some of the people I know. Both Ford and Mazda are good vehicles. My dad had both a Japanese built Mazda and the re-badged Ford based Mazda both with 4-bangers, and they were great trucks.

just say, "last i checked, his name was henry FORD not henry mazda"

It is weird, but Mazda has a version of the Ford Escape (Tribute). The Mazda truck looks like the Ranger (except the bed has that 'flared' area around the fender area. Sometimes I think I see a Ranger and then I see it is a Mazda. Sometimes I have to look twice to see whick one it is at a certain angle...lol

Why is it weird that Mazda has a version of the Escape?

Ford used to own a large percentage of Mazda. When Ford got rid of Jaguar, Land Rover Aston Martin and Volvo they also gave up part of (not all of) their stake in Mazda. While you still have some platform sharing of stuff already out (basically everthing except the Miata, RX-8 and I think the second gen Mazda6) the sharing may not be as much in the future.
