Why do people think......

Its pretty sad people think that, my dad teased me a couple times saying its mazda with a ford badge, but he is pretty stupid... Its an American Truck for god sakes.

Why is it weird that Mazda has a version of the Escape?

.

Because, I just think it is!! I just don't like clones!!!! How about a clone 'Vette?? That would be weird!!!! lol

Mazda also has their version of the new Fiesta...the Mazda 2.

Yes, and the Vette clone is called the Cadilaac XLR.

And badge engineering/platform sharing is pretty much a way of life, just that some are better at disguising it

The previous gen Mazda6 spawned something like 10 vehicles. Of what I can remember off the top of my head...

Ford Fusion & Edge
Mercury Milan
Lincoln MKZ & MKX
Mazda CX9, CX7 & of course the 6

Other badge engineering/platform sharing between Ford and Mazda

Mazda3 / Focus (more so the European Focus and the upcoming US version)
Fiesta / Mazda2
Escape / Tribute
Ranger / BSeries

Past badge engineering/platform sharing

Probe / MX-6 / 626 (some think the Contour / Mystiqe go here but they are different cars)
Explorer / Navajo
323 and Protege / Tracer / Escort and Focus (last 2 US models)

The list can go on and on. All manufactures badge engineer/platform share. Like I said above, some are better at hiding it. Off the top of my head, the ones that come to mind that don't badge engineering/platform sharing (not including high end) are BMW, Mercedes, and to an extent (with their RWD cars) Lexus and Infiniti. Even the Audi R8 is based on a Lamborghini.

Yes, Bro!!!! Thanks for pointing this out. I am so glad that I am not the only one to see the Clones on the road...better than clowns on the road. I hate clowns so don't get me started about clowns.......lol

the 3 and the focus are not clones, they are on the same platform, but they are unrelated beyond that.

the 3 is made in japan, the focus is made in its market of origin.

to be a clone, you tend to have to be built with the same parts and come off the same lines.

When I say clones, I am meaning more platform sharing. Kinda why I put clone in quotes. Maybe platform sharing or badge engineering is a better term to use. I corrected my posts.

The Mazda3 is based on the Ford global C1 platform, shared with the latest European Ford Focus and Volvo S40.
