Why do 4x4 seem to look different.

they are the same other than the suspension, one's stock 4x2 height, one's got a 6" lift on top of being a 4x4 (2" taller than a 4x2) with bigger tires...

it's just personal preference, but a 4x2 will be a better commuter unless the weather is crappy, but you said you already had a 4x4 for that...
 
The front end is higher because the front differential has to fit under the engine. Then Ford puts lift blocks on the rear axle to match the height of the front. On 4x2 Rangers the spring rests right on top of the axle. Again, the red truck in your link is a 4x4 but it is also lifted on top of what is stock.
