I have a 93 Ranger 4X4. Yesterday I was driving and all of a sudden the 4x4 light on the dash and the 4x4 switch came on. I got home and checked underneath but the front shaft did not seem to be engaged so I am curious does anyone know where to check to see if I may have some sort of short in the wiring. I am going to pull the switch and start there but I am curious as to anywhere else in the wiring that may cause this. Any info would be appreciated.

Did you try pushing the button to disengage 4wd?

Those lights have power applied any time the key is on. The 4x4 control module supplies them with a ground to illuminate them. Check for damaged wiring at the control module. (Behind driver seat in single cab model)

For 4-hi - the gray wire on terminal 5 of connector 206
For 4-lo - the brown/white wire in terminal 4 of connector 206

More info here.
