i got a 87 bronco II 5spd
im lookin to do either a 5.0 swap 4.0 swap or get a new 2.9 and put it in

im not sure which to do if i do the 5.0 swap i can get the motor ecu and wireing harness for 250 here the link http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/pts/1006416707.html

im still looking for a 4.0

and for the 2.9 i found one in a junkyard with 80k miles for 450

what will be this rigs intended purpose?? if your ok with the 2.9 pop one in there...

otherwise a 4.0 would be my next choice..then a v8...the pic in your sig looks stockish so a good 2.9 is pretty effective..

The 5.0 swap is only worth it if you build up the engine, as the 4.0 puts out almost as much power and torque, and is MUCH cheaper to swap in.

I personally would go with the 4.0. The 5.0 swap is a lot of time and money. And the 2.9 is just a little too weak.

i wanta go with a 4.0 but its hard to find them cheap i been lookin on criagslist also can i use my stock 5spd trans with a 4.0

for those purposes the 2.9 isnt really too weak, if you run 456 gear with the 31's its pretty good and tend to get ok milage still..

but gears cost more money. so the 4.0 is a definate clear winner for swaps till you need serious power though. since putting 456 gears in a 7.5 diff is a piss waste, the 4.0 looks real good.

then again you may be able to get 456 geared axles already set up cheap in the clasifieds...i gave a set away recently..

alright im goin to try to convince my dad to let me go with a 4.0 but can i use my 5spd trans i have

you can get away with it...but you will want a reman m5od eventually.

Yes, that's another advantage to go 4.0 rather than 5.0. You can use that stock tranny, and also bolt in an M5OD at a later time.

If you put a 5.0 in there, you're gonna have to do a custom tranny swap. On the bright side, it would allow you to run an NP435, which is my dream transmission. :icon_welder:

Yep, get the engine, ECU and harness, and that's ALL you need. It's a pure bolt-in swap. It's literally one of the easiest engine swaps you can do.
