which locker

The Ected is NOT a true locker....period. If you want something that will be reliable and you can just install and forget...the Detroit is your best option.

I understand the ected is fancy lsd.

On the other part I was seeing the elocker is reliable like an ox or any other selectable locker...the detroit is a true locker you install it and your done its like full time 4x4 its always on however I don't mind regular maint on the truck that's part of offroading a vehicle you gotta keep up with it or it will break. Is it really that unreliable or is it like my push button 4x4 a switch activates a solenoid?

as you read thru some more of the threads here on trs, you'll see why so many either change or wish they could change their push button transfer case to a manual one. the electric ones can be very problematic and almost always at the worst possible time.
just something to read up on and consider.

Oh I have been out on trails and wished mine was a manual however I have also seen manual ones not want to go into 4low when mine did its all a matter of opinion and luck I guess. If the electric is so bad in your opinion what about a cable ox locker.

Little more expensive but if it don't break its worth it I guess

If you feel like saying my auburn isn't a "true" locker the I would like to know what your definition of a "true" locker is. Its just like any other selectable locker, except mine uses electricity. When it comes down to it, your selection isn't going to be based off of our reviews of what we have, its going to be based off of your needs. If you don't mind having some wheel chirp going around a corner every now and then and have no need for immediate wheel lock then by all means get a detroit. I however wanted the ability to tell mine what to do and when to do it. I have fun with mine because it lets me experiment and see how effective my locker is. I go as far as I can open and when I can't go any further I lock it and either keep going or back out. Having a selectable one is especially handy on a trail because in some places you cant afford any wheel spin at all or you won't make it (such as climbing up a rock). If I were you I would get a piece of paper and write down the pros and cons of each one and compare them to what you plan on doing and base your decision off of that. Its what I did and you see what I selected.

Auburn even says on there site its not a true locker its a fancy lsd...

Because it doesn't use a positive locking mechanism, it's just an LSD that gets tighter.

The Auburn ected is a electronically variable Limited Slip. And it does a very good job at that. But some people want the whole sha-bang in terms of traction. The Auburn ected will not lock up both tires 100%. It will only increase that percentage CLOSER to 100% but never equal that. Its a "Limited Slip" meaning its still gonna slip some, but the slipping is gonna be limited from a maximum now down to a lower amount.

A ARB or Eaton elocker uses the same principle as the Auburn Ected, but they provide 100% locked action to both tires. Nothing in between. Its all or nothing, ON or Off.

We are not bashing on your Auburn Ected dude, we are just defining it as what it is. And trying to present both Limited Slips and Full Lockers to the original poster so he can make an informed decision on what to buy that will suit his driving style, conditions, and budget.

^this. Your Auburn is just a 'tighter' limited slip. If a limited slip is a hooker....an Auburn is still a hooker, but with a tighter pooner.

And it will wear out as it is clutch based and the clutches are not replaceable.

I have never had tire chirping issues with my Detroit locker. The newer ones are known as a 'soft' locker, they DO allow the tires to differentiate around corners to an extent (unless you get on the throttle...then it will lock up again).

As I said...my Detroit is less noticeable than my previous lock right.

The Detroit in my dad's Cj-5 has never given either of us any real bad chirping...and its a stick tranny with 35's. My father says is light years better than the original design of Detroit automatic locker he had years ago. He also said that one banged and popped all the time, it drove him so bonkers he swapped it out. Not the case with the newer designs. Tire wear is also not, or minimally affected.
