Trying to figure out which is going to be better for me elocker or lock rite...it snows pretty nasty up here and I like off roading I do weigh down the truck quite a bit which is how I blew the factory torsen ls (1 ton in the bed and one tire was on ice :/)

Any suggestions I want to put it in by the time the snow really starts

Neither.....Detroit locker all the way.

You want a full carrier replacement if your dealing with such heavy loads. These are much stronger than "lunch-box" lockers that replace the spider gears.

Detroit, ARB's, Eaton E-locker etc.

The downside to more durability is cost though in comparison to lunch-box types.

Detroit is the same as a lockrite or a lunchbox locker...is it worth the tire wear and axle wear to have that over an elocker or even an ox locker? This is a daily driver and weekend offroader...

If you can swing for a selectable locker, by all means go for it. They literally are the best of both worlds.

However I would still suggest the Detroit Locker long before a Lock-Right or anything else drop-in style in a 8.8".

I have a Detroit in my Ranger. I can't say the increase in tire wear is all that noticeable really (this even in spite of the occasional tire chirping while accelerating out of a turn).

selectable lockers all share the same disadvantage: more parts to make it work, more opportunities for something to break.
switches, solenoids, compressors, wiring, air lines, fuses, relays, etc, etc, etc, all things that could malfunction or break or just plain wear out.
so i still vote for the Detroit, but that's just me.

I do understand parts wear just nervous about being almost full time locked with a detroit esp with the stupid on ramps out here everything onto a freeway is a damn sloped 90 degree turn. Meh anyone got a link to a detroit for a 31 spline 8.8?

Edit let me rephrase that has anyone seen one cheaper than $600?

May as well go the few bucks and have the elocker

And either way it will replace my spider gears correct cause those are currently in a pile in the bottom of the pumpkin

yes, lockers replace the spiders. and i get very minimal chirping with my Detroit, waayyy less than the Lock-Right in my Geo Tracker street and trail rig.
honestly, i bought mine used in excellent condition for about $200 right here on trs in the "parts for sale" forum. yeah, i got lucky, but maybe you will too. good luck.

I find my Detroit to be much smoother than my previous lockright.

I have the Auburn ected E-locker in my 8.8 on my ranger. All I can say is so far it has been great! Acts as a limited slip when not turned on and anytime I want the extra slip protection I just flip a switch. I don't see a reason to get one that you can't control and have it locked when you don't want it to be. I can go play as much as I want and then turn it on to get myself unstuck when I am done.

Edit:
BTW, if you are dealing with ice and such I would think you would want an e locker or air locker so you can go ahead and lock it and get out of a situation instead of having to wait for your wheels to spin to lock it up. Prevents you from digging a hole to get out of before it locks.

not sure how much ice driving you do in NC (North Carolina?), but here in northern Minnesota, it's usually from mid-late October thru mid-late April. just had 5" of snow and freezing rain to deal with today. no complaints with my locker at all. lock-up is very quick, predictable, and i hardly notice it. and i don't have to take a hand off the steering wheel when driving on ice to flip a switch. never been stuck or dug holes, but maybe it's more the way i drive... like i want to live til i'm 100.

here, yes in North Carolina, we get mixes since we are on the border of most winter weather. Comes down wet, and then melts and refreezes. When we do get some wintery weather its nice to be able to go out and play in it, and trust me, we do. And taking a hand off the wheel is hardly noticeable. I drive with one hand most of the time anyway and if I know I am going to be getting into somewhere troublesome I have it locked going into it if I don't want to get stuck.

The ected has so many mixed reviews and as I said in the original post I already smoked one lsd is a fancier lsd really a good answer? But out of curiosity is your adjustable in how biased the ls is or just lock/unlock?

The Ected is NOT a true locker....period. If you want something that will be reliable and you can just install and forget...the Detroit is your best option.
