What brand oil filter do you recommend? I've heard a lot of bad things bout fram. If it matters, I'm planning to use either valvoline full syn or max life, depending on vehicle. thanx

Use the search feature at the top of the forum. This topic comes up monthly.

I've used Fram mostly, Motorcraft occasionally. Although I've heard alot of people rip on Fram lately.

I use Fram mostly and never had an issue with Fram once.

Considering we've had at least two people on this forum alone experience Fram's self destructing and dumping multiple quarts of oil in seconds, that's enough for me to stay away. Even if your odds are good of never having a problem, they're a lot better with the other brands. An OEM Motorcraft FL1-A is available practically anywhere, including WalMart and is as cheap as anything else.

I use Motorcraft filters and whatever oil is cheap at the time.

My truck has been using Fram for years... no problems yet.

NAPA Gold, its 5 bucks and there is a really pretty girl who works there :icon_cheers:

I have put on so many Fram filters. Once in a while, I might get one where the filter media shredded up. And nearly 25% with the by pass valve stuck open. So Fram filters should be consider the standard to measure by. Not to say that they are bad, but they can be improved.

For the Ranger, I always have been using Motorcraft FL-1A. Puralotar or Pureone would be another good one. Oddly enough, I use a Fram filter on the motorcycle. Simply because I can see the quality control before installing (canister filter).

i run napa filters everwhere being wix (heavy duty). and napa premium oil (valvoline) or chevron oil also heavy duty stuff. never had one problem.

We've used Fram on nearly all our vehicles and racked up probably close to 2 million miles if not more over many, many years between all of them. Still have yet to have an engine die from oil related issues. I still use all Fram filters.

Granted we prefer to change them as close to "on the dot" as possible.

Keep your oil changed regularly and don't run the super-stupid-cheap oil through it and your truck will have a long wonderful life regardless of the filter. We still run cheaper oil through it (Walmart Supertech - about the only thing we buy there anymore) and our vehicles still have never missed a beat.

Not saying there aren't better filters/oil out there, I don't see the point in needing it for a non-high performance vehicle.
