which brand oil filter?

I've never heard anything negative about Motorcraft oil and filters, yet there's ALWAYS debates about this. Why not use what Ford recommends? The Motorcraft oil/filters are less expensive and perform fine. This shouldn't even be an issue.

K&N because of the wrench adapter at the end of it lol

Yeah that sold me, plus all the trick features they said it had such as the bright orange anti-drain fitting. Not to mention it's a great filter but dang pricey at $15. For Oil I run Mobil Super 2000 High Mileage Semi-synthetic. A little more explensive but worth it. For air filters Ill either put in a Fram Platinum or a Motorcraft. More Motorcraft recently.

I run Mobil 1 full synthetic Truck and SUV from walmart... Can't beat 5 quart jugs for 20 bucks. And usually a Fram Tough guard filter also from walmart as they never have the correct motorcraft filter.

On my old truck I run valvoline full synthetic and fram tough guard as well.

Ive always run Fram filters and never had a problem.

I was going to try something else but never remember till I get home from the store and get the drain plug out.

Motorcraft FL-1A filter and 10w-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic in my 4.0

Just the plain jane Mobil1 10w-30, the other types of oil "high Mileage/truck-SUV
are just gimick names, Like fishing lures that are designed to catch fishermen
instead of fish.

I used to do that and then decided that it wasnt worth $13 a filter when the OE one probably gave me the best protection to flow ratio and I could get one of those for about $2 with tax. I've used the FL-1A ever since.

A Fram won't necessarily blow up your engine but the simple fact is that you can get a better filter for the same money...Motorcraft.

FWIW, I used that once in my previous Sport Trac and wear metals in the UOA were awful. Much worse than regular Mobil 1.
I do occasionally get a Used Oil Analysis done. Only way to know for sure.
Bottom-line best UOA's I've gotten were with Pennzoil Platinum.

Best filter for the money: Motorcraft
Best filter: K&N or Mobil 1. Synthetic filter media instead of paper, therefore the porosity is uniform instead of random like it is with paper. On the other hand, they cost a lot of money.

While I agree with you Jay, I think the debate stems from conspiracy nuts who think that Ford would sell them a sub-standard filter that would make the engine wear out faster so that they have to either buy a new engine or car sooner. This is of course an absurd notion since people wont keep buying from someone who makes a bad product, so its actually in their interest to sell the best filters and fluids to keep their cars running longer. People are more likely to buy a high quality unit.

Fram's junk unless you get the tough guard. I prefer Motorcraft myself, cheap and I can run it on my Ford and Jeep. :D

Well it also depends on the engine too i think... My dad runs full syuntheticin his car and it has been running fine ever since, but my moms car we ended up switching back to regular (after about 3 oilchanges being synthetic it developed a bad case of piston slap and self destructed, then the next engine developed it after about 4), Old truck was just fine, so hopefully this one wil be fine with full synthetic.

i'm amazed at how many opinions there always is on this.... I cannot state what I don't know about, so here goes what I do know about.

I run my own shop, and have a professional tech for 12 yrs now, since I was 15.

We use shell/ pennzoil products

On fleet trucks that are gas (or propane), but use flat tappet cams we run shell rotella 15w-40.

On normal cars and trucks we have always used regular shell oil, never had a problem.

I have a 98 skylark and a 89 corolla I have had both for 100000 miles now and use shell high mileage in both, and get oil analysis for them each time.

We also use oil analysis's on all fleet vehicles we service, and have only had to do about 5 engines out of 65 or so different kinds of trucks, and they all had 300000 plus on them, but they were all changed regularly and sampled each time. We also have always used wix filters, be it carquests or napas whoever will sell them the cheapest at the moment!
