Where to Dump?

It would be loud in the cab. The rumble is cool for about a month then there are times you will wish it was quieter. My B3000 SE 4x4 exaust is stock except that I cut the muffler off and replaced it with a straight pipe. It sounds like a tractor sometimes now, guys at work are suprised that I don't get pulled over.

So I finally got around to getting the flow 40 installed today, and I'm pretty damn happy with it. Pepboys quoted me at $250 before taxes, and this was after the large spiel about anything larger then stock is going to kill any power I already have, and they can't do it in front of the tire, yada yada (that I believe is because they don't have the welding know how to do anything that isn't pre bent). Anyway found a local shop that did it with new pipes in front of my rear tire like I wanted for $125 out the door. Anyway I was just curios about the tips that flowmaster offers... They cost $10 less then the muffler itself... Do they actually affect the sound, or is that $40-50 just for the chrome?
Oh, and more importantly should I disconnect the battery and reset the computer, or does that matter in this instance?

I would always disconnect the battery anytime welding is done on a vehicle. plus clamp the ground as close as you can to the welding.
