Hey I am looking to get this Flowmaster 40 installed on my 93 4.0, and I was just curious on some of your opinions. I was considering having the pipe dump right in front of the passenger rear tire. I've seen this around, and thought it looked bad ass, but I'm concerned about damaging the tire, or anything like that? Thoughts?
Pros/cons?
Any input is appreciated.

Cons? Some police may tell you it's illegal and harrass you with this.

I don't think it will damage you tire at least never did on mine with 3'' straight out where you want it.

It can stain the wheels depending on the material

straight out the back for a DD... it's better, quieter in the cab, and for idling.

for a trail rig, I like in front of the rear tire, no worries about flexing into your exhaust.

Okay, gotcha. See about 60% of the reason I've been thinking about putting it there is because I see so many posts saying it isn't loud at all. After having her stock for the last 9 years (aside from the cai thats been on there for a year or so) I am kinda looking forward to whatever rumble I may get...

It won't damage the tires. I had a 78 Olds that had dual dumps less than 2" in front of the rear tires. Never hurt a thing.

Also, as long as the cats and muffler are there and the exhaust exits out from under the body of the vehicle you are legal.

my 93 has a pretty cool exhaust dump i havnt seen much. its a staright pipe that splits into duals and dumps under the bed pointed out behind the rear tires at a 45* angle about 8" in from the tire. i can definatly hear it in the cab and wouldnt want it ANY louder but it doesnt have any kind of muffler and im not sure if it has a CAT on it or not.

on the way back from getting the truck it was raining and my cousin behind me said the exhaust would blow water out off the tires and it looked bada$$

I like the member's idea of using the cat as a muffler.....then put a y-pipe behind the cat and run an exhaust from the y-pipe in front of each rear wheel for a cool look on both sides of the truck....it might even balance out the exhaust sound better too

I run true duals with 2 cats and no mufflers out the rear bumper of my v-8 Ranger (I did the same thing with the previous 2.9L v-6)

I have a bodylift in my truck, the duals are ran for the most part between the frame rails and come down from above the frame in front of the bumper on each side.

Quietish up front, goes clear out the back and I would have to rip the bumper off for the outlets to drag on the ground.

My brother's '97 F-150 got a new wheel and lug nuts under warrenty because of the exhaust reacting with the finish of the wheel. It also got an extended tailpipe to run the exhaust behind the tire.

The Rat's exhaust ends at the muffler outlet, which is about the middle of the bed.

As stated, it can wreck the finish on your wheel on that corner.

Ford did this on the 97 F150's when they came out with the new body style.

They ended up replacing right rear wheels and putting on a tailpipe that exited behind the rear wheel.

Here is a short vid of mine. It dumps in front of the rear axle and also how it sounds in the cab. I do have a V-8 and true duals, so it will be different than your set up, but might give you an idea.

Yeah, so is it the heat thats the issue? I have about a can and a half of spray on bed liner (

) on each, so discoloration shouldn't be a big deal, as long as it isn't causing the paint to chip or peel off.. Also is it legal? I was under the impression as long as it exits from underneath the truck it should be okay, but I do live in super liberal California...

Yeah, so is it the heat thats the issue?

Its the gases.

Depends on engine and wheels... some OEMs got along fine with it (like the Lightnings) but others didn't (like the mere mortal F-150's)

In Iowa it has to exit beyond the passenger compartment... no idea what it would take out there though.
