I have a 1996 Ranger 2.8 5 speed. I was working on a no heat problem which turned out to be a clogged heater core. While working on it I noticed that my selector for defrost/dash/floor is not doing anything. I have air coming out of all three places and turning the selector switch does not change anything. Every video I see tells me the blend door motor is supposed to be on top of the heater box. Mine has a cable to select hot or cold which works fine. I do see a plug going to the side of the heater box which looks like the one for a blend door motor. Is that sucker on the side and is there any way to get to it without tearing out the whole dash?

Correction. You might have a motor if you have electronic temp control. But it is only for the temp setting.

The A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616) is located on top of the A/C evaporator housing (19850) assembly and controls A/C air temperature control door (19D842) movement on command from the control assembly. Internally, an electronic circuit accepts commands from the control assembly and positions the A/C air temperature control door with a reversible electric motor. A separate potentiometer feeds A/C air temperature control door position information back to the control assembly.
