me and a mechanic were lookin at my 79 bronco today, hes a good buddy of mine and hes always lookin out for me so hes not tryin to piss me off, i know hes being honest. he thinks she will need about $2-3000 to get her on the road, and she probably still wont be nothing, she needs all new break lines, new base pan, new base pan gasket, new valve cover gaskets, new rear oil seal, new side axle seals, new brake lines, brake pads, brake rotors, leaf spring, cross members. and the main "beams" that are on the body are completely rusted through. and im not spending that kind of money on her
so what should i do with her? he suggest we go in an old woods road and beat the shit out of it until she blows then take the battery out of her and leave it. im not doing that, obviously

but since she has the straight axle and 351M, maybe i might just lift her up and use her for a wheeler, but we have no offroad trails around here.

so what do you guys think i should do?

Id say pass unless you think the end results will be worth the money. With 3 grand you can find a decent wheeler for the same cash and in better shape. If your into big projects and can afford to have it sit around for parts to come then make it into a project truck you can work on here and there. If its a daily driver id just ditch it.

if the engine runs an it drives under its own power, beat the snot out of it till it dies then take it to the scrap yard. its a blast.

With bad brake lines, don't think driving the "snot" of it is a good idea unless you're on a backwoods trail and got some way back. Throw it up on E-Pay or CL, listing it as need work, see who bites.
Dave

How much do you have invested in it? Maybe part it out and get your money back or at least some of it.

no money yet, and she has front brakes when the peddle is on the floor, i payed 300, the mechanic offered me 200 for him to beat the living shit out of it. but if i was going to beat on her, id do it myself probably

Pull that 351 and 4x4 system and do a v-8 sas swap on your b2 (you do have a b2 or ranger right?). Then go to user CP and join two groups at once.

well if i was going to do all that, itd be in the 88 ranger

she already got a 3" body lift, and id want to keep her a 5 speed, so ill probably just put the bronco axles in her and get a 5speed/tcase somewhere

I agree with Feelinfroggy, use it as a parts donor for one of the other toys. $300 is a good price on all those goodies... plus I'm sure u could sell off a few parts from it and recoop some funds.

I think you should improve your grades, quit messing around with old junk and try to make it into a college somewhere. Haul the truck to the recyclers.

HAHA,, what did I tell you about showing your report card to the mods? One more F and you get teh ...Banhammer, LOL.

Seriosuly its not a bad Idea, sell it for scrap, put the money into a moneymarket account and save it for college. Community college is cheap enough to be coverd by the pell grant but if your thinkin university then you will need every penny you get.

Sounds to me like it needs everything a 300$ Bronco would need...

Didn't you look at all this before you bought it?

I think he looked at it and said "Sweet a full size Bronco". I can't say much because my first Ranger was a POS just like his Bronco. Before I bought this new Ranger of mine I crawled underneath it in a gravel driveway to inspect the frame and everything under there.

+1. Boggin, I know it's not what you want to hear, and I know wrenching is a lot more fun than homework, but I agree with Will. Get an education, get a good job, make MAD DOLLAHZ and you can buy a much better Bronco, or whatever the hell you want. That's what my plan is anyway. (Currently sitting in a college library, about to go home after a long day of classes...) Good luck.
