That would work, as long as you realize going into it that the guage will be reading much lower than usual.

I guess I didn't say that the new sensor would go to a new gauge. I installed an Auto Meter pillar mount gauge with it's own sensor, but also kept the factory gauge (switch) and sender.

Not a bad idea.

I did that in my Mustang. But the idiot light sender (switch) goes to an actual idiot light. So I have seperate functionality. An aftermarket guage for pressure reading and a warning light to get my attention if there is a problem.

Well I went one better. I have a neighbor who is an electronic geek. I was worried about not knowing when my cam syncro would go out and stop my oil pump. My neighbor made an electronic board (1x3) that I hooked up to the factory pressure switch and when the oil pressure goes to zero there is a warning buzzer that sounds. The whole unit with mini speaker fits behind a spot on the left side of the dash. When I first start the truck it buzzes for a second or two until oil pressure gets up, but that tells me it's working, like idiot lights that come on when you first turn the key to run.

running a t will give you a relative temp in this case regardless. not perfect but will funtion.
