My credo
The perfect is the enemy of the good.
I'd assume jack under the cross member in front. It looks to me like there's a large a-arm and I can't see how to put the jack stand, it seems like it would be on just the front edge of the a-arm. What am I missing?

What are you getting ready to do? You can put them under the frame for most operations.

I usually put them under the frame. It depends what I’m working on. for the rear, I’ll often put the jack under the diff and the stands under the axle tube near the shock mounts.

I usually place the jackstand behind the radius arm mount for the front and in front of the rear left spring forward mount for the rear. You should give your vehicle a good shake to test the stability of placing of jackstnds before crawling under the vehicle. Think how a shop lifts vehicles with twin-post lifts. The arm pads are usually placed on the frame as far forward and aft between the 2 tires on that side.

If you're just working on the brakes, you can place the stands under the axle just so you're now working on a unsupported weight.

I just want to take off the front wheels to check the brake pads (front). Sounds like the jack stand point is on the frame, for the fronts.
Rear I didn't have any problems, I put the stands right inside the spring mounts (stands on the axle) that worked great.
Yes shake test required.
