LOL...well it basically said it all...

It rained cats and dogs today and i was hard set to get some work done...

Started by taking the heads off last week and found out the motor i have is brandnew...hasnt even been broken in yet i dont believe...pulled out one of the lifters and it still had cam grease on it...SO that made me way happy...Bored .030 over...im crossing my fingers and hoping theres an aftermarket cam in her...lol....

So today i went back in cleaned the face of the block up a little slapped some oil on cylenders, put new gaskets on it and put the heads back on.. then i continued to put the push rods and rockers back on and then got it ready for putting the intake manifold and carb on...but i left everything undone and coverd everything up with paper towels with a little wd40 on them...help with some moisture...Its been raining hard lately...and condensation on everything....Got surface rust on everything...so i had to go in and do some preventative maintenance..lol :headbang:

...so ive been looking for bolts...the guy who started this took everything out...let it rust or lost it......seeing i have no bolts for any of this stuff....ive been running around town trying to figure which is which...

Intake manifold bolts are 5/16x18-2inches long...incase anyone cares.

and im still looking for water pump bolts...and valve cover bolts...Let me know if you can help...IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE...THAT WOULD BE GREAT......

I did find out on the other hand though..that my new headman headers will have to be modified...the collector is scraping the frame as it gooes down the side of the engine and well..its in the way so its gonna have to go..but i wanna stay with the headers...So im gonna cut the collector off and have an exhaust shop weld and support an extension of some kind so i can get it through and move it if need...maybe weld on a flex link. :icon_welder:

WELL HERES SOME PICS OF THE SHIT FROM EARLIER TODAY.....

Now i need to swap the gaskets out on my waterpump, install it...figure out what bolts they are also..lol...

and then work on my carb....hopefully by the end of next week this bitch will be up and running....atleast turning over...

my steering column is all FUBAR.....seriously...i have no idea what they where doing but its jacked...and i have no keys for this thing so... yah....:icon_confused: basically one project after another...lol

WELL ENJOY..

Mid 60's to 76 rail rocker heads, that's one thing for sure. Do the pistons have a huge dish in them ? Like about a quarter inch deep ? Intake numbers looked like D1OE from what I could see.

that thing looks tipped back pretty far:icon_confused:

Now I'm wishing I should jumped on this before you.....cool B2

I bought my water pump bolts from the HELP section at auto value. There's a kit that came with the long bolts and studs needed to mount the p/s bracket and such.

And cammeddrz, it really could be to far back, but as far as i know it isnt...with the water pump on and fan itll be damn close to the front...Its probably just how the picture looks......the guy said it ran before with a different motor...(or same motor just before it was rebuilt)...untill the guy started tearing it apart to add performance parts.....It had the old style exhaust....and what not in there...but im gonna modify my Headmans and make me work..or sell em and get the right ones..

That whole starter bull shit is driving me nutz....I checked my flywheel and its ok, but the gear on my starter is all f@cked up...teath are all stripped...gonna need a different starter anyways...figure what thats all about.

either way...lol...

WWHHHAAATTTTTTT? :icon_confused: DAMN! :bawling: :D

Auto-Value huh? ill have to see what i can find...Should have looked there...try to stay away from that place...

Anyways...OH YAH...THERE D00E heads...70's with the dished pistons, not to good for high compression, but came with it for free so whatev i guess.......:icon_thumby: close though man...good guess....yah there completely rebuilt old heads...i have two sets of E7Te...heard they flow well...but the heads need a complete rebuild...these are brandnew...so for now..this build will be fuel friendly...for the most part...as long as i behave my lead foot...:headbang:

When its all done and said im gonna start building a roller motor...Already have a block(i have 2 roller blocks.), 2 cranks, e303 cam, rod arms. Basically a complete new short block + ....figured once i get this hydraulic engine going ill sell it to buy a nice set of heads...throw in some new flat top pistons, and let her go. My buddy wants me to stroke my roller...but that would basically make alot of the stuff i have useless....But oh well...lol...a project for the future...ALOT MORE PROJECTS....lol...

You got a mid 70's 8 to 1 compression motor there. It's a dog to start with. Add the wrong cam and it'll make it worse. As will swapping on E7's, their chambers are bigger than what you have now. The pistons have grand canyon sized dished tops from 72 to 77. You really have run into this blindfolded haven't you ? Let me ask one more thing that's going to further throw gasoline on the fire............you did get a rear sump oil pan with the dipstick mounted in the pan, didn't you ? Otherwise, you're won't be able to check the oil.

meh, nothing milling the e7's wouldnt fix as for raising the compression back up.

And cammeddrz, it really could be to far back, but as far as i know it isnt

not how far back it sits. but how far back its tilted

With the E7 heads, he'd have to mill .025" off just to get to where he's at now. Mill another .025" off to get C/R up to 8.5. Besides having the deep dished pistons, those years also have a higher deck height by .023". Think they also ran retarded timing which is another bad thing.

WELL i guess thats not quite the answer i was looking for...

....as, far as i know this truck ran previously with this motor....before it was built....

all im trying to do is get it running again...untill i swap over the roller motor im building for it(have everything waiting on machinework)....Currently everything is coming together on that and should be done about 2-3 months after im done with this....then BAMM.

Thanks for the constructive criticism...but i do know what im doing a little bit....Just getting it rolling thats it....And it doesnt have e7te heads which would help my compression issue....it has large compression d00E heads which are even worse....guess what...

(I DONT CARE, IM JUST TRYING TO GET WHAT I HAVE RUNNING SO I CAN DRIVE IT UNTILL I CAN GET BETTER STUFF FOR IT)

Im sure alot of people have done this on TRS also with sucess(GET BY WITH WHAT THEY HAVE)...Just figured you guys would be the ones to help me or root me on to getting it done better....THANKS FOR THE HELP FROM EVERYONE THAT HELPED THOUGH!

D0OE heads have smaller chambers than E7's.(seems to me that you're not comprehending all we've posted here:icon_confused:) And if they're 351 heads (there were 2 different heads with the same casting numbers in 69 & 70, one each for the 302 and 351) they'll have bigger valves (1.84/1.54 vs 1.78/1.45) Being all that, you could always bolt on a supercharger or turbo.:icon_rofl: to take advantage of the low compression.:icon_idea:

Oh, and please move the dipstick back to where you can check the oil accurately. Otherwise, that motor's going to have a short life span.

yep...this rookie learned real fast...if you axe for advice....you better be wearing a seat-belt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now-a -days....i just post the last stupi(e)d thing i did so everybody can have a gooood lafffffffff.......

keep at it.....you'll get it done....
