Wheel fit problem

Hi new here ..have a 93 ford ranger 2 wd.. it has a 8.8 rear end out of a 94' mustang, it had 18 inch wheels on it with 7 inch bs.. .. I wanted to use 255x60x15 rims so I ordered a set of 15 x 8 with 3.75 bs.. was told the off set is -19 ?? ...they stick out about 3" from rear fender well .. what the hell did I do and where do I go from here. fronts fit OK. thanks

What year mustang did you get the 8.8 from? I believe they are all 60-61" wide. Ranger axles are narrower at 58.5"

If you want the tires to not stick out so much, you'll need wheels with more backspacing or a narrower axle.

its out of a 94'Mustang...... I thought it was a offset problem

The offset is just a measurement on the wheel, just like backspacing is just a measurement.

More backspacing = closer to the truck
Less backspacking = further away from the truck
Negative offset = further away from the truck
Positive offset = closer to the truck

So what your saying is I need positive offset to draw the wheel/tire inside the wheel well .. backspace on 15 inch rims that I've seen only go up to 4.5 inches, so i would need a large positive offset .. do I have it

not exactly. the offset only compares the wheel centerline with the hub mounting surface. it doesn't directly relate to the backspacing, and does not care how wide the wheel is.

picking 3 examples, a 6" wide wheel, a 8" wide wheel, and a 10" wheel.

all 3 wheels can have the exact same offset, lets use "0" for now.
that means the mounting surface is in the exact center of each wheel.

BUT, the 6" wheel will have a 3" backspace, 8" will have 4", and the 10" will have 5" backspace.


on a 15 x 8 wheel, that measures 9" overall, with a 7" backspace will have a positive offset of about + 63.5mm

OK think I got it ..maybe.. my 15 inch rims now are 8 inch with a -19 off set so the mounting hub is pushing the wheel and tire out from the mounting hub because of the minus offset ..I need the hub to mount further to the street side because the hub is to far inward now. There is a lot of room from the tire to the spring now maybe 5 inches so bs not a problem .. need positive offset to bring the wheel mounting hub out towards the street side. Can I make up 3 inches with positive offset, to get this tire inside the well ?

yes, sort of. front wheel drive cars can have offsets near what you need. the newer Mustangs have similar offsets. its a matter of what is sold by the aftermarket, so start shopping.

I have the same wheels as you on my 2000 4x4. they fit great on a stock rear axle.

Yeah, my front fit alright .. haven't been able to find 15" with a lot of positive offset that looks like the front so far .. thanks for explanation
