is there any major difference? most lift kits say that trucks with stx package wont achieve stated height..

There is a major difference, at least in the early years. There was an option for the STX Hirider which was a factory 2" lift as well as cosmetic changes.
A good way to get more info is to search through the site.
There is a "tech library" at the very top of the page, and also a search button....two of them actually.
I know there is a thread dedicated to the stx, about the xlt I'm not sure.
Good luck,

That.

It was only available on '87-'89 models IIRC. When you put a lift on, you're taking off the 2" lift to put a 4" lift on. Therefore only 2" height gain over what it was before.
Any other year STX ('90-'97) will be of "normal" height, and the same lift would give it a 4" lift compared to what it was.

So in the end, both STX or XLT would end up exactly the same.

Hope that clarifies
