I've been driving in America for 6 months now, although I'm 19. Lived outta the country the last 3 years, so thats why I've only been driving here such a short time. Been pulled twice in the 6 months.
First time was coming down the highway, doing about 85 in a 55. I slowed down to about 65 for some traffic up ahead (but my speedo was reading about 5 off) and just then passed a state trooper in a dodge charger pointing the opposite direction in the median. I watched him in my rear view mirror until I disappeared over the next hill and he didn't move or turn his lights on. My turn off was about 1/4 mile from there, and so since I didn't see him move, I just assumed he didn't see me, and turned off.
Speedlimit was 35 on that road, so i was carefully watching my speed, still kinda disbelieving he didn't see me, when all the sudden a silver car comes FLYINGG up behind me, (I know he was doing at least 90 in a 35) all the sudden I see the blue lights and i'm like $hit, and I pull off. I was now more than a mile away from where the trooper was.
Well anyway, he thought I was trying to run from him by turning off the highway. He started asking me all these questions, and was real mean about it, wanted to know where I lived, exactly how I got there, etc. I answered all his questions honestly, but I don't think he believed me. Ended up writing me up for 70 in a 55. I went to court and got off for improper equipment, which is just a $155 fine.
Second time I got pulled over in town one night by a regular cop. I had just turned right without stopping completely at this red light, and as soon as I finished the turn, on come the blue lights behind me. I was like ahhhhh $hit (I was due to go to court for my speeding ticket the next day) but I pulled into a parking lot and stopped. Cop comes up and goes "any idea why I stopped you?" I said "Well sir, I believe I ran that red light back there." He looks at me funny, laughs, and goes "Well, that may be right, but you've got a headlight out, so I'll let you off on the red light tonight." He gave me a fix it ticket and let me on my way.
The best one I've heard though was my best buddy. He got stopped for doing 80 in a 55 in his Cherokee. He was with his girlfriend trying to make it to a movie on time. He lives in a small town, and the cop goes "You've got 2 options. I can impound your car right here and now, or you can give me your cell phone and let me call your dad. You can tell him what you've just done, and I'll let you go. Which would you like?" My friend called his dad, and the cop let him off with nothing but a verbal warning. I thought that was pretty friggin awesome!!
I've another buddy who had to have his arm amputated (long story) but he drives a Mustang. He speeds a fair bit, and of course every cop he passes has his radar gun trained on his stang'. Well my buddy always hides whats left of his arm behind his side when the cop comes up, (its amputated at the elbow) and the cops almost always ask what he's doing with the arm, cuz it looks kinda suspicious. When he moves his arm up and shows them, they get embarrassed for being all insensitive, and let him off. He's been stopped 8 times now, and didn't get a ticket till the last time lol.
