both of my wheel cylinders went bad in my rear end so i had to disconnect both rear brakes. i was wondering if there is a certain year explorer that i can switch rear ends with. it would be a double plus since i would have rear brakes and limited slip with bigger splines. i have a 91 ranger 4.0 4x4. if anyone knows what year explorer then that will greatly help. thanks y'all

96 to 2001 should have what you want available.

91-94 if you want drums

Wait, re-reading the original post, you don't have rear brakes? I thought those came factory on all Fords for the better part of a century now.

Anyway, keep in mind that if you want to go up to rear discs, you need 16" rims.

I've never seen one with 15"s. I was always told it was because the rim rubs the caliper.

If that information is wrong I'll be more than glad to hear it. I like my current wheels, but really want rear discs. That's also about $1500 I don't have to spend between wheels and tires.

Stock tire size for most of them was a 235/75r15...so yup...15's clear just fine.

Well, the guy that told me that was never good with numbers. Maybe he meant 14's.:dunno::dunno:

i dont care if it is drum or disc. disc would be better but im not picky. i just wanted to make sure that there wasnt a certain year that wont fit or a certain year that will only fit. if not then im fine with only running front brakes. as long as it drives and stops im happy.

Fix the brakes. Rear cylinders are like high school girlfriends, cheap and easy. Two bolts and a brake line (and the whole brake shoe thing). Don't become a statistic, fix or replace.

i would need to replace both sides. the both r leaking grease and brake fluid like its getting paid to do it. if i can find a rear end for half the cost of total parts in brake shit then id rather do that. easier to swap then fix.

if you just want cheap and easy, its very cheap to replace the cylinders. they even make rebuild kits for the cylinders if you wanna go really cheap. its not gonna be but like $30 total cost. and i did mine (by myself) when i first got my truck a few years back, and knew nothing about vehicles at the time.

i mean just my opinion...

ok so i would have $30 on each side to fix each wheel cylinder, then i need new brakes b.c it doesnt have any good ones when it did work so that would be another 30, plus add to cost how pissed i will get trying to get those damn rusted brake drums off. so **** that. swaping sounds so much easier. yeah but im lookin at the positive side to a replacement. right now my truck has open 3.55 gears. i would like a locked or L/S rear end. so if i can spend around 75 for a whole rear end as opposed to fixing 2 rusty RUSTY RRUUSSTTYY wheel cylinders and brake lines. i spent almost 12 dollars on my last brake line for the rear and that was 6 dollars for the line and another 6 dollars for a stupid fitting for the brake line to the cylinder. so id rather do a swap then jsut either sell or scrap the old one.
