What would you offer?

Dude, I live near Seattle..... that's a $2500 truck. Doesn't matter what he thinks he can get what 2004 F150 4wd are selling for less than he is asking.

I dont want an f150 lol. Most people ranger shopping aren't looking at half tons. I already have a full size truck.

That said, the ads on cl disagree with you

Just show up and put 3 stacks on the hood and I bet he takes it.

There are 18 Ford Ranger 4x4s on Facebook market place for $3500 or less

I'm not buying it because I'm not buying a truck with issues

Those trucks are either manuals, 3.0, or have a ton of miles. Non of which appeal to me. I'm not in the market for a cheap truck that needs work. I'm in the market for a daily driver I can give to my son next year.

Ok well you asked what we would offer. You know what you want and you know what you are willing to pay. The perfect used car doesn't exist. But FYI, my daily is a 1990 F150 I paid $800 for with unknown mileage. I ride it 500 miles a week, get 19 mpg (5.0l, 5spd, 3.08 rear) and have put (not counting stereo and planned exhaust upgrades) maybe another $400 in it. Yes, it's all beat up and when I bought it I was daily driving my minivan and just wanted it for dump runs and while not exactly the truck I wanted (I wanted a 300ci 6 with a/c) it was close enough. Low miles on a gen 3/gen 4 is a unicorn... and if you do find one, you are going to pay. I just bought my oldest son a 2005 F 150 4x4 super crew short box with a 4.6l and fairly agressive tires for less than $5000 and he gets 21hwy and 16 city and I have never gotten that from a 4wd 4.0l or my 3.8l Kia Sedona.

I know you have in your mind what you want but you are going to pay. My dad used to tell me plan on spending 10 grand on a truck..... either you get a nice one for 10k or you buy one for 5 and put 5 in it.

Good luck on your search but as a car buyer for a dealership in Michigan (I buy them here and send them to Michigan) you are going to be looking for a while unless you luck into one.

Cheers mate

See, that's a huge difference. I refuse to dd a car I don't like. I won't dd a pile of shit. I also am in no rush to buy a rig, so I can wait a while. The truck I just posted is pretty much what I want. Under 150k, ext cab, 4x4, 4.0, auto, under 5k. So barring anything crazy I'll be bringing home car #8 tomorrow. While I'm not a car buyer, I do buy and sell a lot of cars, so I tend to know the market. I just wasn't familiar with the ranger market. I also didn't expect it to vary so wildly state to state before I asked on here.

Good luck with your sons 3v truck. They are cheap for a reason.

I bought it from a dealership that took it in trade and was sending it to the auction. It just had plugs put in it. Has a clean car fax and 180k. He's put 8k on it and no issues YET.... but part of that was the 2600 mile road trip he just took moving out here.

Fwiw, your fuel mileage comment is irrelevant. A ranger will be cheaper to drive than what I'm commuting 120 miles in now

in my opinion, every vehicle is different. beaters can last forever and the shiny ones tend to have stupid b/s issues on a monthly basis. I've owned nice cars and I've owned beaters and my most reliable vehicles have been the beaters. they tend to turn key and go wherever you want to go. had nice cars that seemed to be high maintenance. I like to go for the vehicles that are everywhere and parts are readily available, like rangers. I still say most rangers older than a 2005 are $3000 tops, no matter how many miles and quality. the minute you pay $5000 for a truck you will find a 2500 dollar truck in better condition the next day.

Well I paid 4500 and have zero regrets. I haven't found one nicer yet for cheaper.
