Ok so i know i have been saying i am going to do some performace mods on my ranger but i get to stuck to my 6.4l psd and end up droppin money into the beast. but now is the rangers turn!!! What i want to know is, in your honest opinion what mods you you do first from most important to least important. I thought of this list... but i am a diesel techy not a gasser so tell me what you think at what type of gains i would get (like mpg gain, hp gain, or torque gain.)
1. Intake
2. Throttle body spacer
3. cat back exhaust
4. Tuner (what brand is best)

Thats is all i can think of. Please tell me what has worked for you and what hasnt.
Thanks, Abel

Rangers I find gain some great HP and TQ gains with a rather simple bolt-in:

Thats all I did for my ranger, Just one big bolt-in

I'll bet you money none of your list will work...

I know these are two very different machines and work very different.... My 2008 ford diesel and my 2002 ranger. On my diesel i have cai intake, 5 inch dp back exhaust, tuner. For a total gain of about 320 hp. I dyno'd my truck so i know. Obviously im not expecting any were near that gain but i dont get how the concept of intake, exhaust, tuner will not work on my ranger. GAS ENGINES PISS ME OFF!!! haha jk. but its harder to make power i geuss. :dunno:

Because it is naturally aspirated....a CAI will not let more air in than it is already using....TB spacers are a waste of money....exhaust you might see some small gains.....adding a tuner would be your best bet.

Put a turbo on your 4.0L and that stuff would probably help too! :icon_thumby:

Since your a diesel guy...change the spark plugs!!! they probably need it LOL but anyway i'd definitely look into some forced induction

What are spark plugs??? haha jk. But i was thinking about a super charger but idk if it's worth my money. I was thinking of dropping in a cummins 4bt ( i have 2) but it would take a lot of work. Not much power but i have never seen a ford ranger cummins... and i would like to see it in my drive way. And i could use diesel power more than gas. But back to mods.

Who makes super charger kits ready to go for my sohc ranger. I have seen one but i am not sure. And i am sure i will need custom tuning if not live tuning. Also will i need any mods to handle the extra power and drive pressures?

Again... My vote is still just to jam a V-8 into it.......... :-p

This is my last gasser. lol. Diesel is my game. I could easly make more power with a 4bt cummins than a 302. But i am not insulting you gas fans because i respect gas... very fast engines. But how much would be a full super charger kit...?

If you are buying new I'd think 3 large at least. used maybe under 2. If it's your daily driver and you want more power it sounds like you don't need major changes. I'd go with mapping the ECM and the exhaust next. The intake gets enough "cold" air stock. If you are into gettin your hands dirty a cam is a must.

Wow, i completely forgot about the cam... who makes a good mild cam? Would i need to do additional work on the heads to put the cam in? And since i dont know this engine very well how much would they charge me for it to be installed and how much is it for 2 cams?

Cat-back exhaust and a tuner, dudes on the Sport Trac board love the XCal II but I don't have one myself ($$$). The only company that makes 4.0 SOHC headers is JBA and they cost about $600. People who have them say they don't make much difference because the stock manifolds are already pretty good.

www.zabteck.com has a few 4.0 parts like oversize TB's and underdrive pulleys.
