What was your Pick A Part Find Today?

HAHA, well worse story this morning from the shop, not only did it destroy the belt due to a $20 idler pulley freezing up, it damaged the tensioner pulley, put a hole in the radiator, and blew the head gasket....$1800 in repairs. For a $30 receiver hitch LOL.

I understand your frustration, for sure. BUT, I'm going to take a wild guess that if the serpentine belt hadn't snapped on the way back from the wrecker, it would have snapped soon, anyway. In that case, you'd still be out the $1800.00 for the repairs.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Ive never seen a serpentine belt snap, Ive seen some pretty bad ones that needed changed and in one case (on a trailblazer) someone had replaced a alternator and a stray fastener fell between the alt case and a bracket, causing pully misalignment. chewed up a brand new belt in no time. I once had a tensioner that didnt move freely, so it wasn’t putting tension against the belt good enough. When I had more load on the charging system (lights on) Id get enough slippage that it wasn’t charging, but it was ok during daylight hours.

Everything goes out the window when a pulley ceases, not too common as a first indication... mine was power steering fluid on a belt that swelled the rubber and the cords gave out and started unwinding, I noticed the sound and stopped the engine then rolled to a driveway... If the water pump isn't turning on a modern engine and you keep driving you might not notice the coolant temp change depending on the sensor location with no coolant flow...

Given the serpentine belt was only about a year old (had the belt and water pump replaced last year) it was just like what the heck, at first I was thinking why would a belt that new just decide to shred itself, I was so frustrated at the time I couldn't think of the reasons a belt would do that LOL. I'm just glad it did it somewhat close to civilization not up in the hills camping or something like that. I have a feeling the head gasket was already weak and/or leaking but just does it always have to be everything fail at once HAHA!!

Probably won't have it back for a week or so by the time they get the parts ordered in, and the head back from the machine shop it'll probably be about a week...luckily I have the Ranger and Bronco 2...honestly I really don't drive the Jeep much, I've only put about 10,000 miles on it the past 3-1/2 years I've owned it. I've considered selling it but I do enjoy driving it when I do drive it and as long as it took me to find a Jeep in good condition with Selec-Trac 4WD its not going anywhere....unless I can find a Jeep Comanche with Selec-Trac 4WD, pretty hard to find them, let alone finding one with the Selec-Trac 4WD.

I ordered the ECM and ECM relay for the Ranger yesterday so hopefully that cures the issues I'm still having with power loss.

Going to go back over to the other Pick A Part next weekend and see if I can score a set of tires for the Bronco 2 since the tires on it now are down to the wear bars...yeah 40k mile tires my ass, I think I have about 25k on them.

My find was information! Couldn't find any Rangers/BIIs without A/C, but the owner of the JY gave me information that was much more valuable. I was either going to give up and live w/o A/C forever or spend $1500+ to put a Vintage Air system in the truck. He showed me his El Camino with the Vintage Air unit installed using an OE compressor and other OE parts which cuts the cost substantially. I realized I could use a stock Explorer compressor and other stock parts to do the A?c for less than $1000. Still pricey, but within my budget.

I'll sell you a bag of ice for only $900...

I personally think 1K is worth the price of admission. I've been in Texas a few times during the heat of summer... 2K would still be worth it to me.

Prius, Volt, and a few other hybrids use the same full electric A/C system. Waiting for the next half off day at UPAP to go get a setup.

Seems by doing the math on BTU loading, the auxilary compressor off a Prius/Tesla should work for a Ranger cab.

interesting thought... would you need to upgrade the battery/ alternator/ power distribution box to handle that extra load?

Dont suppose they had any injector rails for a 94 4.0 4x4
I have no idea, didn't go searching very far, I don't look too much into engine stuff as most of the time its all trashed thanks to people who don't care about anyone else that may need parts.
