What type of oil do you use?

Currently running Royal Purple 10W30, yes it does cost more $8 to $9 a quart. I want to say I have a Pennzoil or Fram filter - can't remember. But I will be doing a change soon, before the 10 yr trip . . .

top end oil with a crappy fram filter? :icon_confused::icon_confused:

I forgot to mention, I use valvoline high mileage because all my vehicles except the mustang are over 100k. (84k for the 2000 stang) And motorcraft filter. I tried the highperformance oil filter once, then I read where the high performance filter has "more filter media" which slows the flow of oil. While the extra media maybe a plus for the air filter I don't like the lack of oil flow. So I stick with stock.

During my oil change I run a gallon of either diesel or kerosene through the motor anyways. Dump in the diesel turn it on for no more then 11 seconds and shut it off. give it two minutes to drain and the thinner diesel pulls more shavings out the drain hole.

If it doesnt leak or burn oil there really is no reason to use high mileage oil.

I just switched to Amsoil. So far so good. I only go to 7500 miles before a change. The higher mileage seems a bit excessive to me. I used to use Castrol Syntec and Lucas oil stabilizer and I changed that every 5000 miles.

My ranger is on 5k mile oil change intervals with mobile1 5w20 and a FL800S motorcraft filter. my mustang gets the oil changed once in the fall and once in the spring with mobile 1 10w30 and an FL1A. My girlfriends fusion is on 5k mile changes too. 5k mile changes save money and synthetic evens out to the cost of more oil changes with conventional oil.:icon_cheers:

Ok, honda is now recommending to new car drivers that 7500 and 10k mile oil changes are needed, which is true of a new engine on synthetic. Who drives a honda? Who goes mroe than 3 or 6k between changes?

The first question still stands, which is better synthetic or conventional? (Disreguard teh cars on tv LOL thats just stupid)

for my ranger i used a K&N filter(adds half a quart more oil. was also a special at autozone) castrol blend 10-30 and a quart of lucas oil stabilizer. my chevy is going to get mobil1 clean 7500 or extended proformance with some lucas stabilizer and K&N filter.

I use one bottle of STP oil treatment, a dose of Slick 50, some marvel "mystery oil", and to chug it down whatever oil I have around, 5w30, 10w30, air compressor oil, some old Kendall 2 non detergent oil, 10w40, 80w90, etc.

Throw it all in. :headbang:

I also like to use a K&N oil filter(adds 15 horsepower) I install it with a IMPACT WRENCH, and if it ever starts leaking(which is really the only time you need to replace a oil filter), I will let my local Jiffy Lube work on it. :)

I use Chinamart Super Tech synthetic. 10k oil changes. Synthetic is better for several reasons, but this is not to say that regular mineral oil is not good. Follow mfgr recommendations for API and use any oil you want. Most oil is good oil.:)shady
