What Trans?

The MO5D doesn't have a removable bell housing like many automatics do.

And, no you can't use the 3.0 trans on a 4.0 (without installing a very expensive custom-made adapter plate - because after all....with enough time and $$ ANYTHING is possible).

Ford made it very simple for us. :annoyed:

The 2.8, 2.9, and 4.0l are the same bellhousing (The SOHC is close enough).

The 2.3 and 2.5 LIMA engines are the same.

The 2.3 HSC (FWD), 3.0l (FWD or RWD), 3.8l (FWD), and SHO 3.0/3.2l are the same.

The 3.8l (RWD or SC) and the 5.0/5.8l are the same.

The Duratecs are all the same.

The modulars are all the same. (except some early 4.6s, they had the 5.0l pattern.)

U need to add the 4.2 rwd to the list with 3.8rwd and 5.0/5.8

I really wish there was a way to get the m5r2 trans adapted to the 4.0s pattern so u could just take the v8 trans and throw it in a ranger.

That would be nice, using a v8 trans so our 5r55e can go to hell lol.

I thought everyone knew that the 4.2 is the same as the 3.8l.

U would hope but I've talked to soooo many people that had no clue they were the same.

Darn

Ah man I had thought I found my trans. Thanks everyone! :icon_thumby:

As for me the search goes on. I have a couple leads so I'm sure that I will find somthing soon. Anyone have an opinion on clutch and slave cyllinder replacments? Stock OEM from advance, low end preformance, or otherwise?

A guy just contacted me and offered me a deal on a 4x4 M5r2 pulled out of a 96' f150 with transfer case. He was claiming that this would bolt up to my engine. Would a trans from an F150 bolt up to my engine? I am assuming not but I wanted to make sure that no V6 F150 transmission were an option to me.

Again everyone I thank you for your help. I am still learning and I appreciate your patience.

No, the R2 is a very different trans.

Basically the "R1" (ranger explorer) transmission is a 15/16 or 7/8 scale model of the M5OD-R2 trans used in the F-150's

Since u can't use it anyways I would be interested in buying it if u were close enough to me. I could use that trans.

Ps if it was a f150 with a M5r2 its a I6 not v6 (unless its 97+) not that it matters though

Good news guys and girls. I got a trans for my truck. $200 bucks at a junk yard and it was from a truck the guy used to run parts with. I am still looking for what clutch to buy though. Should I go aftermarket? E-bay? Also, is the slave cylinder and throwout bearing somthing that def. needs replaced? The slave cylinder is like 65 at Advance. I found a couple clutches that seem cool but I dont know how to tell. I posted them on another thread. Thanks for everyones help!

I have taken the clutch out and in looking at it the actual clutch pressure plate looks fine. The spring fingers are still strong. I was thinking about just replacing the clutch plate which I dont think is even that bad, though I do not have a new clutch plate to compare it to. Any thoughts? Good idea/bad idea?
Also I heard that the freeze plugs on the top come off causing the trans to loose all of its fluid. I also heard that there is a better replacment for them that someone on here sells. Could you please inform me on how to purchase those?
