how do i dispose of my old 3.0?
i need to know because tomarrow i'm goin to the recycleing center and i do not know what to do with the thing.. it was in my first truck 2 years and i've taken it apart 5 bazillion times and now i just need cash, the RC is priceing scrap at $.75 a lb if i remember right, and i'm guessing the whole motor (heads, pistons, rods, crank, upper and lower intake, cam, the works) at 250-300lb.. i really dont know... :icon_confused:
help?

if you need the money now take to motor to the recycleing center not sure what you will get out of it but thats what i would do !!!!

I need a 3.0 where are you?

i'm in Ga, i'm sure you dont want this motor... the bearings are long past shot, the cyl walls are warped so bad from over heating you can see the deflection and a clogged oil pump caused little to no lubrication the cam lobes are way way gone, its ready for scrap

if there are any good sensors still on it, harvest them and sell them separately. Then scrap the longblock as others have mentioned. you might get a few bucks from the valve covers, oilpan and intake as well if you sell those seperately, but it might be just easier to scrap it as a whole unit.

you can try to sell the good parts off it in the classifieds here at TRS..

Take it to a salvage yard and see what they'll give you. I'm sure you could get more by selling the parts that are still good to them and then just selling the block and whatnot as scrap. Why not get extra money?

only thing really good is the rocker arms, oil pan, and the upper and lower intake..

Donate it to the salvation army.

Remove any aluminum pieces and take it all to a salvage yard (NOT a junkyard.) You'll get more money if you bring different metals separately instead of just a complete engine. This is what we did at the junkyard I worked at.

I wouldn't expect to get more than $20-30 for everything, just so you know.

He was thinking closer to $200 for everything. You can buy a good used engine for a little more than that. :dunno:

Yeah no way. Maybe if it was solid copper or something. I have been getting around $130/ton for the cars I took in lately... that works out to about 6 cents a pound.

Easy. Use the block as a coffee table for you man cave.

Best idea so far. Except for mine. Mine gets you a tax deduction.

Scrap metal recyclers (the commercial kind) typically have a "class" of scrap they call "engines" some even seperate engines into "clean" and "Dirty"

Typically the difference is that the "Clean" engine has it's oil filter and oil pan removed BEFORE you get there so they know they don't have to get rid of the oil.

call and find out before you go because the difference of $0.02 or $0.05 per pound adds up fast on an engine that weighs 300lbs.

Current scrap rate around here on engines is $0.15/lb for clean engines and only $0.10/lb on "dirty" engines
