You guys act like this is some sort of Blasphemy! It's just good business. Ford Droped sponsorship a long time ago. Are you loyal to someone that dumps you on your ass?
It's Bobs own damn fault. You can turn the TV on every week and find monster trucks racing or doing freestyle on TV. Ever see Bigfoot?? No. Why would you sponsor a truck that is only seen by handfulls at local venues when you can sponsor a truck seen by millions every week?
Ford not sponsoring Bigfoot and sponsoring Blue Thunder was a smart decision for Ford. They're getting a lot more advertising for their buck with that truck.
Sponsoring vehicles is a win-win situation. Not only does it help the vehicle owner, but it helps the sponsor. Businesses need (2) things:
1) Good advertising to promote business
2) A good write off
People have asked me to sponsor a vehicle before and the first thing I want to know is where it's going to be seen, how often, and by how many. It doesn't even matter if the vehicle wins or is a champion. As long as it's there and seen. I can write the expense off on my taxes as advertising, but I don't want to just throw the money away. I still want to invest the money where it's going to get me the best results.
People dream of having 'sponsors' for their vehicle. I've had them. Most of the parts on TRS-2 were given to me. Big deal to me, but not really to the sponsor. Why? Because it was for a 6-part magazine series and my truck is viewed a lot on line. The sponsor simply writes it off as advertising.
Now is the time to find sponsors for 2011. Companies know how much $$$ they're going to put towards sponsorships/advertising each year. You have to get your piece of that before the $$$ is spoken for when the new year starts.
Don't worry about if your truck is a show winner or race winner. Sell the sponsor on the idea that they're name & product is going to be seen to alot of people in a way that will make their product look good.
