I recently bought a 2004 Ford Ranger and I am trying to figure out if it is a xl or xlt. There are no xlt markings on truck, but the company that financed me told me it was an xlt. I have looked up the V.I.N. and there was no indication of what it was on Carfax. Can anyone tell me how to find out?

The badges were removed I am assuming or were never there...supposed to be on the front fenders as mine are. This is just a regular model most likely. Check the door hams and see if anything is there about the package. You could cal your local Ford dealer and give then your info and they should be able to tell you.
You could ask the place were you got it from for the original paperwork. Ask them how they know it is an XLT or and XL.

Are the bumpers chrome or painted? From what I've seen, the XL's have painted bumpers, and XLT's are chrome.

There are also differences in wheels. The XL got the stamped steel rims, where the XLT's got aluminum wheels.

i thought xl's were regular cab and xlt's were extended?

Wheels and fog light front end would imply XLT, with a sport package or something of the sort.

XL's are stricly stripper trucks *Unpainted bumpers, vinyl interior, think Autozone delivery trucks*

XLT's are basically everything else for the 98 and newer years.

You can get a XL with all kinds of options. If you order ths Sports package, think the tach and fog lights are included. Ford keeps changing the options as to what is really standard. Page from the 2000 sales brochure, thought I had one from 2010 also. The '98' brochure also shows the lights on a XL.

I would bet though, that if it does not say XLT on it then it is an XL.

From the photo it looks like an Edge or Sport because of the color-keyed front bumper. However the rear looks like chrome, so either it was wrecked and an Edge front end put on or the rear bumper got dinged and someone put a chrome bumper on.

Virtually all Supercabs were Edge, Sport, or XLT models. If it has a split cloth bench seat then it is likely an Edge or XLT.

Appointment-wise the Edge and Sport were sorta halfway between the XL and XLT. Cloth seat but a rubber floor mat. Most XLT's had carpeting but there were some XLT value packages with rubber floors to cut down on the price. AFAIK the cheapo value package XLT Supercabs were two-door models without the opening rear doors.

i thought xl's were regular cab and xlt's were extended?
You could get an XL or XLT either way, but XL Supercabs are so rare as to be almost non-existent.

Uh, i have an XL with air conditioning, chrome bumpers, carpet, and cloth seats.

don't have cruise, have a standard transmission, shitty mirrors, and manual windows and locks.

thats an edge.
assuming by the rims 16"s
u got 4wd or all the power options inside.

Its all power, has cruise control, its a 4.0 with over drive and it has a 6 disc cd/mp3 player, but its not a 4x4

Like has been mentioned, there are so many different options out there, had an Edge and didn't even think of it. Met up with Dan last week-end with his 4x4, his has the grab bar on only the passenger side, my 4x2 I drove down to met him has them on both sides, my 2000 4x4 has none - go figure!

If it's 2wd, the easiest way to tell if its an Edge is if it has torsion bars instead of coils.
