i went to oreilly's to get my brake shoes and idk if i need the one for 9" drums or 10" drums, how do i find out? i have a 99 ranger xlt 2.5l 5speed 2wd with 7.5 rear axle

Stamped on your drums is the maximum diameter. I forget the exact number, but for 10" it should be in the 256mm range. Less than that would be the 9". Or, if you can take a look at your brake shoes, 10" brakes are about 2 1/4" wide, and 9" brake shoes are less than 2" wide.

Apart from doing a visual inspection, you could look in the tech section under "brakes" and there may be some help there.

7.5 is 9 inch and 8.8 is 10 i believe......a little searching and reading goes along way, this is a rediculous post for the urgent threads...... IMO

Since you have a 4banger and if the rear end is stock you most likely have 9 in

not all 7.5 axles had 9" brakes, some were 10. im not sure if all 8.8's were 10 or not. either way, take it apart and measure.

i agree. :annoyed: moved to the brakes forum.
