Building codes from using it in home building aside
I just bought several CCA treated 6x6 timbers
as "sleepers" to bolt the steel frame for a pallet rack to.
It's possible that the stuff I bought was "old stock",
CCA Chromated Copper Arsenate
On 1 January 2004 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a voluntary agreement with industry began restricting the use of CCA in treated timber in residential and commercial construction, with the exception of shakes and shingles, permanent wood foundations, and certain commercial applications.
in CCA the Copper is a fungicide, the Arsenic an insecticide and the chromium is
a fixative to make it less water soluble.
The newer stuff isn't as effective and if you need to bolt it or screw it together
you need to use heavily galvanized or stainless steel fasteners becuse the new
stuff is more corrosive.
Personally I'd rather use Locust, I just wouldn't want to cut down any of my locust trees
