The answer was given and the location you just described makes absolute sense. Impact sensor for the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
Yeah it does. They’re the front impact sensors. They would be on the front (frame, rad support, etc).
 
Mine are bolted to the rad support.
 
I dont remember I haven't fiddled with them in a while. But I know they are bolted to the rad support. I had to replace one a few years ago. Ill look tomorrow when its light out.

Impact sensors are connected to the SRS(Supplemental Restraint System) module
SRS detects when vehicle hits something or is hit by something, it uses impact sensors to detect this and the severity of the "hit"

SRS module is also hooked to the air bags and can deploy these based on severity of impact it detects
