I have an 04 ranger super cab. Behind the driver and passenger there is a hole in the side of the cab. There is also a slit running almost the whole width of the cab below the sliding rear window. what could this be for? My truck did not come with jump seats. I cant figure out how to post the picture of it.

The only thing I can think of is its where the jump seats mounted. but i could be wrong.

the hole I was explaining. (the square thing)

this is the groove. it extends all the way around the cab behind the seats. There's room enough to fit your fingers in it; it's a closed off space, so ti doesn't extend up to the window or anything.

A friend told me it might be for a cloth cover, to cover up the back and make it into something like a trunk. (best I can explain it) If that is what it is, where can I get one? If not, what is it?

looks to me like there should be a cargo cover there. i know some 1st gen trucks have them but i dont know if any of the newer trucks got them or not.

thats where my cargo cover goes and everything. i guess your ranger just didnt have one

I just know this is going to sound funny but I have a '05' with the same layout as yours. Never had used the jump seats (that aren't there) but did find that cargo cover. Just went out to look what the latch/pull thing looked like and now mine is gone also, it was there three weeks ago. It's like the old pull down window shades on a roller that fits into those two side notches. I bet when I released it, it snapped back up into the plastic cover not to be seen anymore. Six screws to pull the plastic cover in the morning to check. Hope that's all you have also. Never knew!

The side pockets ( I assume 2 of them) hold the ends of a spring loaded cargo cover. The back slit is (probably) where the cargo cover comes out from behind the plastic. It may have slipped back into there. You could remove the panel below the slit to see if the cover is hiding behind it.

Yep, it is for a roll cover, it normally sits underneath your plastic panel and you hook the rod on the end of it into those slots. Now for my hole question. My '98 has a couple of holes in the bottom of the cab behind the seats, they have tubes welded into them and plugs. The are from the factory and go all the way through. Any idea what they could possibly be for???
