What is the best bang for the buck paint?

I have Spray guns, and can spray decently, but have been out of the painting game for a decade- What are your experiences? I am looking for a durable, low budget, long lasting paint, that with proper prep, Last for decades. Being in Baton Rouge, I need to reduce it to stand our ridiculous heat while I am spraying it. It is in the 80's of above for 8 months out of the year. I need to spray my Bright Red '86 SVO Mustang, and the metallicish light blue on the '91 ranger.

I'm in the same boat, I think Summit's single stage urethane combo will be the way I go when I get done with all the body work. By the way how did you widen you'r box? I need to do the same for the wider axle I installed.

The guy who painted my car switched from only using PPG to a brand called Metalux. From what I understand, it's only been around for about 5 years. He told me it goes on as well as PPG, but is a lot cheaper. I'm happy with how it turned out. My car has 3 coats of clear as well. Here's some pics of it:

I've been using Kirker paint for the last year and a half. Single stage urethane. Good price pretty durable so far. You won't win the Oakland Roadster Show with it but it's good stuff. www.autobodytoolmart.com is where I get it. They will send you a free color chip chart as well. Good luck!

When it comes to paints, we are in the Sub-Sub Tropics, and the sun and heat is brutal 8-9 months out of the year. So I need to be able to spray in 90* +weather...

We widened the bed so that one can lay a pallet back there, and that was the original intent.
Make 4 screw jacks, get some 3/4 inch all thread, some short sections of pipe, some wood to keep from denting your fenders out. I would pull the bed off if I had to do it again, but we removed the liners, removed the braces, cut the inner fender panel so the bed side was able to move, used the screw jacks to bow it out, and welded bars across the gap left in the inner fenders, while jacked out. We made new braces out of EMT conduit(Take an end, beat it flat, bend angle, drill hole, measure, beat flat to measurement, drill hole, bend and mount) Then made some sheetmetal fender liners. As it sits right now, I have a 7" wider(2" spacers) track, and the tires beat up my trim, so I would probably go with 1.25 spacers, if I did it again. Although I could roll the fenders...

duplicolor is always decent, i used rustoleum satin black tho!

Don't use a SS in your area. Use a BC/CC. I would suggest getting the base color in PPG Omni and using a reasonably priced clear coat. You want the UV protection the clear will give you,especially with red.

Metalux is some great shit! I have summitracing Single stage on my truck and I dispise it.

I've been impressed by Summit Racings paint the few times I've painted it, its not the best but could be worse for as cheap as it is. but I have a lot more experiance with Diamont (BASF), and Sherwinn Williams. Diamont is awesome, its what I have on my Ranger, very durable, I painted the bumpers on my Buick Park Avenue, and after 4 years the front bumper had no stone chips in it. Don't ever use Sherwinn Williams, its what I use at work, and there isn't a day that goes by that I wish I was the decision maker, it woulda been out in the dumpster years ago.

As far as your weather is concerned, do no over reduce your paint, always mix it according to the specs, just use the right heat range, which is probably going to be the slowest reducer/hardener available.

I kinda figured it would be the slowest cure of all of them. I have used Omni Single stage, and it was nice. What is a good, LOOOONG lasting clear nowadays?

There are too many great clears out these to give you a definite answer. I have used some high dollar clear that was great. But recently I have been using a less expensive clear because it has held up so well. I started using Finish Pro on my lower end paint jobs. But after seeing the results 7 years later, I decided that the only thing low end was the price. I have been very happy with it's performance and only use the high dollar clears if the customer wants it. I use the Finish Pro for my own things as well.
