What is "rep power" under the user name? Its the green dot with a number next to it, so far everyone i have seen so far but Jim has a 1 next to the green dot.

when i scroll my mouse over it it says "[users name] is on a distinguished path"

im curious what it is and what changes it?

If you click on the

You can add to the persone reputation. This gives an idea as to who knows their shit. If you know Jack you have 1 or 0, but if you know about the birds and the bee's you have higher numbers.

:icon_cheers:

admins have 10 rep power

i can change it manually as well :)

I tried to give somebody a rep power point a few weeks ago, and it didn't work. The site was still rather new them, so I just let it go and I'll hit 'em later.

Rep power is how many reputation points you can give a user. I don't know why the forum shows Rep power instead of Reputation points accumulated. If people start leaving negative rep by disapproving someones post (you see this when clicking
reputation.gif
):

What do you think of RobbieD's post?

I approve
I disapprove

You get 10 reputation points when you register.

For every 182 days (6 months) you gain 1-point of rep power (reputation points) that you can give others.

For every 500 posts you gain 1-point of rep power (reputation points) that you can give others.

For every 100 points of reputation you have you gain 1-point of rep power (reputation points) that you can give others.

You have to have 25 posts before you can give others reputation points. (may change that number)

The text you see when you cursor over someones reputation circle changes with their points. "User is on a distinguished road" is what's given to users with 10-49 reputation points. There are 15 labels there that I haven't altered yet.

MAKG's changed because I switched the default from 1 point for every 1000 posts to 1 point for every 500 posts. He gained a rep point because he has over 500 posts.

This may take some tweaking as time goes on to get it right.

i think the confusing thing is the difference between rep points and rep power?

It certainly confused me.

Now, I don't understand why rep power is displayed at all. Why would anyone care? Rep points, on the other hand, might really matter.

Confusion? Confused? Now that's something I can relate to.

Jim, I think that incidence of when I gave another member a rep point did "take". I just went back to the thread, clicked the scales and then clicked "approve", and a popup said that I couldn't add another point again. Is there a time period involved?

No complaints, though, at all. I like the new site, and it's been continuously improving. You guys rock.

I agree with MAKG. I think the rep power display is stupid. It should display your rep points. There's no way of changing it short of hacking the actual template. The only way to tell is to cursor over the green indicator and see what level they're listed at.

RobbieD, the forum is set at a default of 20 which meens you have to give rep to 20 other members before you can give rep points to the same user again. Not sure if I like that setting either.
