I was wondering if anyone knew of any good dog repellant's that don't involve injuring the dog? we have about 25 evergreen trees i planted along the road in hopes of eventually having a "tree wall" along the road, and our dog keeps peeing on them and some of the trees are turning brown. We live out in the country so our dog is pretty much never tied up and when he is he doesn't GO at all. any suggestions?

My uncle used an electric fencer and moist ground to cure his dog of the habit of marking his tires.

It would hurt like heck, but it would be memorable and not permanant.

haha, im thinkin the electric fence is a bit over board lol

can you fence in the trees? Liquid repellents only work temporarily and other repellents aren't usually "dog friendly". I'd buy some cheap fencing and line the row of trees on two sides. Not pretty, but effective against dogs and pests like rabbits, coons, sasquatch....

Lime Sulpher might work...stinks though...I used tex mex seasoning to get rid of squirrels...they hate it...and since a dog snuffles the ground before marking the territory it might work for you .... but fencing would be the best bet...everything else gets diluted in the rain...

yeah, maybe you could even fence each individual tree in with chicken wire or sumthin'. I know dogs don't like vinegar too much, but I don't know how that would be for the tree either.

i guess i'll go the fencing route. the electric fence might be a bit much for him, he's closing in on 11 but still doesn't hesitate to attack anything that moves (except people)

Well, you said not to hurt the dog so I guess the 12ga is out. +1 on the electric fence. He'll only do it once and they don't hurt that bad. Definately not lethal. He will never go near those trees again!

Dad has trouble with deer tearing up small trees in his yard. Make a ring out of chicken wire however high you need it to be, and put a steel post on each side of the tree to stabilize as needed, and wire the fence to them. Worked for deer, should work for a dog.

lol,my grandpa's dog accidentally learned about electric fences.he never peed on wire fences again,ever;missingteeth;

EDIT:sounds like a great method of keeping them off of trees-minimum effort on your part maximum result

now i just need to rig it up on my trucks rims at night:D

Deer Away will probably work.

But it really doesn't smell very good. It's cougar pee.

It will also keep away annoying visitors (and probably anyone else).

A few years back I moved to a farm and the cat we had was mauled to death by two dogs...not wanting to buy a gun I bought a slingshot and some steel balls...never did hit any dogs with it but I knocked the rear window out of a rabbit that was parked in the driveway...those things can be nasty!
