My '96 mazda has the two piece driveline. Am i going to have to swap in a single piece or just modify something?

Installing a 4 in tuff country lift kit in a few weeks.
Thanks

you will get a little vibration when taking off from a stop but not much, i have a 6'' lift and its not that bad at all. but if you do want to fix it lower the carier bearing cross member [cheapest] or find a 1998 -2000 extended cab ranger drive line. put the lift on and go fron there. good luck.

Ok, thats good news that I can install the lift, and go from there whatever happens. Thanks.

I already get a clunking feeling when i take off from a complete stop like you mention. I wonder if it is the same thing? Typical for a 2 piece? Drives me nuts cuz ive never been able to figure out what it is. It seems to come from around the transfercase, but who knows........

You could try looking at the rubber around the carrier bearing, that may be gone or going.

ya if its doing it with out a lift, check the carier bearing and u-joints. they might be going out.

I know for a fact that the carrier bearing is shot, which allows the driveshaft to move a little under certain circumstances, but im almost positive that this is not the cause of my "clunk" feeling. I jacked it up and put it on jackstands the other day, and the noise and vibration feeling aren't coming from that bearing.

Must be the u-joints eh? Will check them later this week (what exactly am I looking for anyway? slop/play?).

Yeah try turning the shaft with your hand with it in gear. If it moves, try to find where it does, specifically the yokes. If it does, there's your problem.

i have the 4inch lift, there is a little hop when taking off, and my driveshaft has popped out before on me in reverse, but i need to order the carrier bearing drop kit from tuff country

On my '94 B4000 with 4 inches of lift, I wailed the living tar out it. Nothing needed to be done for either the front or the rear driveshaft.

hick

my friend has a 6" Superlift on a Ranger with the 2 piece shaft and the shaft falls out of the truck once and a while. You should be fine with a 4". I used to have a Ranger with about 5.5" lift in the rear and the driveline was good with the right shims.

i have a 94 ranger with the skyjacker 4.5" block in the rear and a pro-comp add a leaf and i had put a new bearing on the driveshaft lowered it like the tech article said and still had terrible vibrations so i just went and bought a one piece it saved so much aggrivation. plus the carrier bearing from advance was $60 and another drivshaft out of a 99 ranger at the junkyard was only $90 so i shouldnt have bought the new bearing because its still on the old shaft sitting the garage.the one piece shaft is bigger around so if you do much flexing you may need to trim your gas tank skid plate.

Ok so i spent 4 hours today under my truck installing a one piece driveline out of a 2000 supercab 4x4 and the nasty clunk feeling is gone......thats it, completely gone! Finally!

Now what to do with the old two piece? Trail spare? Garbage?

keep it.

and, if you ride hard, you better get another 1 piece for the street.

i am always fawking up d shafts. cause they are loooooooong.

been thinking of going back to a two piece for better angles as i intend to do bigger trails.
