You are a felon and just because something is sealed still means your a felon. The only way to remove a felony is to hire a attorney and go in front of a judge to plead your case. This is called a Felony Expungement Process.

As far as you owning a gun.. Bad Bad move. You may have slipped through the cracks somehow in obtaining a gun through a dealer but mark my words. If you are caught with that gun it is off to prison for you. No if ands or buts.

You are still a felon and owning a gun is illegal and will land you in jail. I don't know if the gun is registered to you but if not get rid of it now. BTW I have a lawyer brother so this is not just a rant of sorts.

I called the chick that does expungements. She said she completely expunged the felony. I am no longer a felon. I am legal to own a gun and it as if it never happened. Essentially a get out of jail free card.

Said she has no idea what the recruiter was looking at.

She said there are other cases from my juvenile record that are sealed but that is a different matter.

So they expunged the felony and sealed everything else.

Ok I made a error. A sealed record does in fact say your record has been expunged. The problem now is that all HR personal will still be able to see your record. They will not be able to see the details of the crime but will be able to see if you were guilty of the crime and if you were a felon. The sad thing is this has nothing to do with the court system.

It seems most companies now have hired HR firms to do this kind of research on a prospective employee.

Who cares if they can see it, if it was sealed, expunged, overturned, or what.

Obama wants to have quota systems in place that require the hiring of felons, put it right up there race and gender discrimination to not hire someone because of their criminal record.

Better yet, let's give/get everyone in prison a job over those who lost theirs and are still unemployed but can't get long-term benefits now...hmm, criminals collecting three hots and a cot plus TV, etc., on our dime while working people go bankrupt, dry up and go down the drain.
