What does this do? Is it important?

It’s a neutral sensing switch.

Is it absolutely necessary to put one in or can it just be capped?

Feed it to dirty.

Neutral switches are over rated.

Truck only cranks if you push the clutch in. So.... its useless in my opinion. I dont know if the spring loaded ball is important for smooth operation of the forks. My T5 didn't have that sensor/switch in the cover. In my experience one little thing missing, that doesn't seem important, normally cocks it all up.

To hell with it, I ordered one..... it should be here Friday..... then noone can blah blah blah... dogfart

You can use it for a remote starter.

Then you would like my truck.

Like me. It's extra stupid.

It will start and gear and drive right over you.
